Strength: 0.3%+3%
Generic Name: Cetrimide + Chlorhexidine Gluconate
Company: Jayson Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
MRP:৳ 220.0 (1000ml Bottle)
Is Antibiotic: No
Indications
Combisol is used to clean and irrigate the skin and dirty wounds, especially when a surfactant effect is needed.
Pharmacology
Chlorhexidine: Combisol is an antiseptic and disinfectant that works against many types of bacteria, some viruses, and some fungi. Combisol does not work on bacterial spores at room temperature. Combisol is more effective against Gram-positive bacteria and less effective against some Gram-negative bacteria. Its activity is best at a neutral or slightly acidic pH and may be reduced by blood or other organic materials.
Cetrimide: Combisol is a disinfectant that acts as a surfactant, helping to clean and kill bacteria on wounds. Combisol works against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, but higher amounts are needed for Gram-negative bacteria. Cetrimide is useful for cleaning infected wounds but is not effective against bacterial spores, viruses, or fungi.
Dosage & Administration
Instructions: Rinse the area with water, then apply the minimum amount of solution needed to cover the wound. Gently wash and rinse again. Apply more if necessary. Discard any remaining solution after use.
Paediatric Use: Use with caution in neonates, especially premature infants, as Combisol may cause irritation or chemical burns.
Interaction
There are no known interactions.
Contraindications
Combisol is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to chlorhexidine or cetrimide. Do not use on the brain, meninges, eyes, or a perforated eardrum.
Side Effects
Skin irritation and allergic reactions to chlorhexidine may occur. If these occur, stop using Combisol. Cetrimide may slow down the wound healing process.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy: There is no adequate data on the use of this product during pregnancy. The potential risk is likely low, as Combisol is poorly absorbed when applied topically.
Lactation: Combisol is not known if the product is excreted in breast milk, but since Combisol is poorly absorbed, Combisol is unlikely. As a precaution, rinse the nipples thoroughly with water before breastfeeding after using this product.
Precautions & Warnings
For external use only. Do not inject. Combisol is not isotonic and can cause damage to red blood cells. Cetrimide may slow the healing of wounds. Use only for infection control and cleansing of wounds.
Overdose Effects
Accidental ingestion is unlikely to cause serious effects due to poor absorption, but high amounts may irritate the stomach. In case of overdose, rinse the mouth, drink plenty of milk or water, and seek medical advice. If necessary, gastric lavage may be required. Contact a poison control center for further guidance.
Therapeutic Class
Chlorhexidine & Chloroxylenol preparations.
Storage Conditions
Store below 25°C, away from light. Use only once and discard any unused portion.
