Indications

Condia is used along with diet and exercise to help lower blood sugar levels in people with type II diabetes who cannot control their blood sugar with diet and exercise alone. Condia may also be used with metformin when other treatments don’t work well enough. Condia can also be used with insulin when diet and exercise aren’t enough to control blood sugar. Combining Condia with insulin may increase the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia).

Pharmacology

Condia is a type of medication called a sulfonylurea. Condia works by stimulating the release of insulin from the pancreas. Condia also helps the body use insulin better and reduces the amount of sugar the liver makes. The effect of one dose lasts for about 24 hours in people with diabetes who are not fasting.

Dosage & Administration

Adults: The dose is based on blood sugar levels. The starting dose is usually 1 mg once a day, and Condia can be increased slowly if needed. The dose may be increased by 1 mg every 1 to 2 weeks, up to a maximum of 6 mg per day.

In well-controlled patients: The usual dose is between 1 and 4 mg daily.

How to take: Condia is usually taken once a day, before a big breakfast or the first meal of the day. Condia is important not to skip meals after taking the medicine.

Adjusting the dose: As blood sugar control improves, the dose may need to be reduced. Weight changes or changes in lifestyle may also require a dose adjustment.

Switching from other medications: When changing from other blood sugar medications, start with 1 mg of this medicine. Gradually increase the dose based on blood sugar levels.

Interaction

Some medications may increase the effect of this medicine, such as ACE inhibitors, antibiotics, and antifungal medications. Others, like corticosteroids, diuretics, and certain heart medications, may reduce its effect. Taking certain drugs together with this medicine may also increase the risk of low blood sugar.

Alcohol can also affect how well this medicine works, so Condia’s important to monitor blood sugar levels closely when drinking alcohol.

Contraindications

Condia should not be used by people with type I diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, or diabetic coma. Condia is also not suitable for those who are allergic to this medicine or other sulfonylureas, or those with severe liver or kidney problems.

Side Effects

Possible side effects include low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia), temporary vision problems, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, and hives. A drop in blood pressure may also occur.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Condia should not be used during pregnancy. If you are planning to get pregnant, you should switch to insulin. Condia can also pass into breast milk and harm the baby, so Condia should not be taken while breastfeeding.

Precautions & Warnings

In the early stages of treatment, the risk of low blood sugar may be higher, so careful monitoring is needed. If low blood sugar occurs, Condia can usually be treated by consuming glucose or sugar.

Overdose Effects

An overdose can cause low blood sugar. Mild symptoms can be treated by taking glucose or sugar. In severe cases, such as when a person becomes unconscious, they should receive an injection of glucose and be closely monitored in a hospital.

Therapeutic Class

Condia belongs to the sulfonylurea class of medications.

Storage Conditions
