Congenil is used to treat nasal congestion caused by conditions like acute or chronic rhinitis, common cold, sinusitis, upper respiratory allergies, nosebleeds, and hay fever. Congenil is also used as a nasal decongestant in middle ear infections.
Pharmacology
Congenil is an imidazoline derivative and works as a sympathomimetic amine. Congenil directly affects α-adrenoceptors but has no effect on β-adrenoceptors. When applied to the nasal passages, Congenil rapidly and effectively narrows blood vessels, reducing swelling in the nasal mucosa. This improves airflow and helps clear the nasal sinuses.
