Indications
Coport 25 is used along with diet and exercise to help control blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. Coport 25 also helps reduce the risk of heart-related deaths in adults with type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
Pharmacology
Coport 25 is a sodium glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT-2) inhibitor. SGLT2 helps in reabsorbing glucose in the kidney. By blocking this process, Coport 25 increases glucose excretion through urine. This helps lower blood sugar levels, aids in weight loss, and reduces blood pressure.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: The usual dose is 10 mg once a day in the morning, with or without food. The dose can be increased to 25 mg once daily for those who tolerate Coport 25. Coport 25 is important to correct any low body fluid levels before starting treatment.
Interaction
Diuretics: Taking Coport 25 with diuretics can lead to more urine production.
Insulin or Insulin Secretagogues: Using Coport 25 with insulin or insulin-stimulating drugs can increase the risk of low blood sugar.
Urine Glucose Test: Do not use urine glucose tests for monitoring blood sugar while on this medicine, as Coport 25 can cause a positive result. Use other methods to track blood sugar.
1,5-AG Test: Do not use the 1,5-AG test to monitor blood sugar levels as Coport 25 is unreliable with this medicine. Alternative methods should be used.
Contraindications
Coport 25 is not suitable for patients with a serious allergic reaction to Coport 25 or any of its ingredients, severe kidney issues, kidney failure, or those on dialysis.
Side Effects
The most common side effects include urinary tract infections and fungal infections in females. Other side effects may include dehydration, low blood pressure, tiredness, dizziness, and increased thirst.
Pregnancy & Lactation
There is no good data on its safety in pregnant women. Coport 25 should only be used if the benefits outweigh the risks to the baby. Coport 25 is not known if Coport 25 passes into breast milk and is not recommended while breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings
Kidney function should be checked before starting treatment and regularly afterwards. Coport 25 should not be started in patients with kidney function below a certain level (eGFR less than 45 ml/min/1.73 m2). No dose adjustment is needed if kidney function is above this level.
Overdose Effects
If an overdose occurs, general supportive measures should be taken, such as removing unabsorbed material from the stomach and providing supportive treatment. Coport 25 is not known if the medicine can be removed by dialysis.
