Indications

Cortucin-N is used for treating superficial infections caused by both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Cortucin-N is also helpful for burns, wound healing, and ulceration. Cortucin-N can treat otitis externa, postoperative infections, neurodermatitis, and eczema. Cortucin-N may be used along with other steroid treatments for certain skin conditions like pyoderma.

Pharmacology

Betamethasone is a corticosteroid that works quickly to treat inflammation and skin conditions like psoriasis. Neomycin Sulfate is an antibiotic that kills bacteria, including both gram-positive and gram-negative types like Proteus vulgaris and Staphylococcus aureus. This cream can penetrate the skin well and work effectively in areas like hair and skin folds, as well as in treating wet skin ulcers.

Dosage & Administration

Adults: Apply a thin layer to the affected skin 3 to 4 times a day. For chronic conditions, gradually reduce the frequency until Cortucin-N is applied once a week, or as directed by the doctor.

Children: Do not use on children under 1 year old. Treatment for children should typically last no longer than 5 days, unless advised otherwise by a doctor.

Interaction

No significant drug interactions have been reported with Betamethasone Valerate BP and Neomycin Sulphate BP Cream/Ointment.

Contraindications

Cortucin-N is contraindicated for patients who are allergic to any of its ingredients. Cortucin-N should not be used for otitis externa if the eardrum is perforated. Cortucin-N is also not suitable for skin infections caused by viruses or fungi.

Side Effects

This preparation is generally well tolerated. However, long-term or high-dose use can cause side effects such as Cushing’s syndrome, acne, thinning of the skin, and enlarged blood vessels, especially if used with occlusive dressings.

Pregnancy & Lactation

This preparation should not be used extensively during pregnancy.

Precautions & Warnings

Long-term use of this cream should be avoided, as Cortucin-N may lead to resistance in microorganisms. The cream should be used only on infected areas and in the right amounts.

Overdose Effects

No significant overdose effects have been reported.
