Indications

Cosvit TR is indicated for the treatment and prevention of deficiencies in iron, folic acid, zinc, vitamin B complex, and vitamin C, especially during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Pharmacology

Carbonyl Iron is a safer and more effective form of iron as Cosvit TR is easier for the body to absorb, has low toxicity, and is gentle on the stomach. Folic acid is essential for the healthy development of the neural tube and is important for cell growth, from a single cell to a fully developed baby. Vitamin B Complex is needed for the growth and development of babies. Vitamin C helps with the formation of collagen in the fetal membranes. Zinc is important for the development of the baby’s growth, nervous system, and overall health of both the mother and baby.

Dosage & Administration

Adults: One capsule daily before food or as directed by a doctor.

Children & Adolescents: Consult with a doctor for the recommended dosage.

Interaction

Carbonyl Iron can reduce the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics, quinolone antibiotics, levodopa, levothyroxine, methyldopa, and penicillamine. Folic acid can interact with antiepileptic medications, reducing the plasma levels of phenobarbital, phenytoin, and primidone.

Contraindications

Cosvit TR is contraindicated in people who are allergic to any of its ingredients. Iron should not be used in people with haemolytic anemia.

Side Effects

Some people may experience allergic reactions to Folic acid. Oral iron may cause constipation, especially in older adults.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Cosvit TR is recommended to avoid using any medications during the first trimester of pregnancy unless necessary. Iron should only be used during the first trimester if there is clear evidence of iron deficiency. Zinc and folic acid supplementation is recommended for the rest of the pregnancy if needed to prevent iron deficiency.

Precautions & Warnings

Cosvit TR should be used cautiously in patients who are at risk of iron overload, such as those with hemochromatosis, hemolytic anemia, or red cell aplasia. Iron can reduce the effectiveness of tetracycline antibiotics, so absorption may be affected.

Overdose Effects

Symptoms of a Carbonyl Iron overdose include fatigue, nausea, stomach pain, black stools, weakness, rapid pulse, fever, coma, and seizures.

Therapeutic Class

Iron, Vitamin & Mineral Combined preparation.

Storage Conditions

Store at a temperature not exceeding 30°C in a dry place. Keep away from moisture.
