Indications

Coversyl Plus is used to treat high blood pressure when blood pressure is not well controlled by perindopril alone.

Pharmacology

Perindopril is a medicine used to treat high blood pressure. After you take Coversyl Plus, the body turns Coversyl Plus into an active form called perindoprilat. Perindopril stops a substance called angiotensin II from being formed. This helps blood vessels relax and lowers blood pressure. Coversyl Plus may also increase the level of potassium in the blood. Perindopril affects the body’s balance of a substance called renin, which helps regulate blood pressure.

Indapamide is a type of diuretic (water pill). Coversyl Plus helps the body get rid of excess salt and water by making you urinate more. This helps lower blood pressure. Coversyl Plus also increases the amount of potassium and magnesium your body loses in urine.

Dosage & Administration

Adults: Take 1-2 tablets a day, preferably in the morning before a meal. If you have kidney problems, the doctor may start you on a lower dose.

Interaction

If you take this medicine with other blood pressure medications or antipsychotic drugs, Coversyl Plus may lower your blood pressure too much. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may reduce its blood pressure-lowering effect. Taking Coversyl Plus with ARBs or potassium-sparing diuretics can increase potassium levels in the blood.

Contraindications

Coversyl Plus is not safe for people who are allergic to perindopril, indapamide, or any other ACE inhibitors.

Side Effects

Possible side effects include nausea, vomiting, upset stomach, diarrhea, constipation, headache, dizziness, trouble sleeping, weakness, dry mouth, low blood pressure, dry cough, swelling, and rash.
