Indications

Cozyme is used for various conditions such as infertility (both male and female), including poor ovarian reserve, polycystic ovary syndrome, and male infertility. Cozyme is also used for neurological disorders like myopathy, ataxia, genetic neuromuscular disease, migraine, muscular dystrophy, Parkinson’s disease, and Alzheimer’s disease. Cozyme is helpful in cardiovascular diseases like congestive heart failure, hypertension, angina, cardiomyopathy, and heart protection during surgery. Other uses include treating periodontal gum disease, diabetes, improving exercise performance, cancer, asthma, and thyroid disorders.

Pharmacology

Cozyme is a fat-soluble vitamin-like substance found in every cell of the body. Cozyme plays an essential role in energy production and cellular respiration. The body needs more of Cozyme in metabolically active tissues like the heart, immune system, muscles, and gums, making these areas more susceptible to deficiency. As people age, the production of Cozyme decreases, contributing to signs of aging. Cozyme is absorbed better when taken with food, especially high-fat foods. After consumption, Cozyme is absorbed in the intestines, transported to the liver, and released into the bloodstream where Cozyme is concentrated in tissues with high energy demands like the heart, muscles, liver, kidneys, and brain. Cozyme is metabolized throughout the body and about 60% of Cozyme is excreted in the feces, with the rest eliminated through bile.

Dosage & Administration

For Coenzyme Q10 deficiency: 150 mg daily.

For mitochondrial disorders: 150-160 mg or 2 mg/kg/day.

For heart failure in adults: 100 mg per day, divided into 2 or 3 doses.

For recent myocardial infarction: 120 mg daily in 2 divided doses.

For high blood pressure: 120-200 mg per day, divided into 2 doses.

For isolated systolic hypertension: 60 mg twice daily.

For preventing migraine headaches: 100 mg three times daily.

For Parkinson’s disease: 300 mg, 600 mg, 1200 mg, and 2400 mg per day, divided into 3-4 doses.

For infertility in men: 200-300 mg per day.

For muscular dystrophy: 100 mg per day.

To reduce side effects, Cozyme is better to divide the total daily dose into smaller amounts taken two or three times a day instead of one large dose.

Interaction

Statins: Statin drugs reduce the body’s natural production of Cozyme. Taking Cozyme as a supplement may increase its levels without affecting the statin’s effectiveness.

Warfarin: Cozyme may reduce the effectiveness of warfarin.

Beta-blockers: Certain beta-blockers, like propanolol, may inhibit enzymes that depend on Cozyme.

Antidiabetic medications: Cozyme may help improve blood sugar control in some type II diabetics. If this happens, the dosage of antidiabetic medications may need adjustment.

Doxorubicin: Cozyme may help reduce the cardiotoxicity caused by doxorubicin.

Contraindications

Cozyme should not be used by individuals who are allergic to the active ingredient or any of the other ingredients. Cozyme is also contraindicated in people who are scheduled for surgery within the next two weeks.

Side Effects

Cozyme is generally safe for most adults. However, Cozyme can cause mild side effects, such as stomach upset, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Some people may also experience allergic skin rashes.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Cozyme should not be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

Precautions & Warnings

Cozyme may lower blood sugar levels, so caution should be taken in individuals with diabetes or low blood sugar. Cozyme may also decrease blood pressure, so people with low blood pressure or those on blood pressure medications should be cautious.
