Cpefro TR

Form: Capsule

Generic Name: Ferrous Sulphate + Folic Acid

Company: Cosmo Pharma Laboratories Ltd.

MRP:৳ 2.32   (Capsule)

Is Antibiotic: No

Indications

Cpefro TR is used for the treatment and prevention of iron and folic acid deficiency, especially during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Pharmacology

Iron is necessary for making haemoglobin and supporting the body’s cells. Cpefro TR is absorbed mostly in the duodenum and upper jejunum. The ferrous form of iron is absorbed more easily than the ferric form. Men need about 1 mg of iron per day, while menstruating women need 1.4 mg. During pregnancy, iron needs increase to 5-6 mg. Folic acid helps with cell division, and its deficiency leads to megaloblastic anemia, which affects the production of red blood cells.

Dosage & Administration

Adults: One capsule daily during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Some individuals may require a higher dose due to dietary needs or other factors.

Interaction

The absorption of iron salts and tetracyclines decreases when taken together. The absorption of iron can also be reduced by antacids containing magnesium trisilicate.

Contraindications

Cpefro TR is not recommended for patients receiving repeated blood transfusions or those with anemia not caused by iron deficiency unless there is also iron deficiency present.

Side Effects

Iron salts can sometimes cause stomach irritation, nausea, and pain in the upper stomach area, which usually depends on the dose.

Pregnancy & Lactation

If pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your doctor before using this product. The use of iron supplements during the first trimester should only be done if iron deficiency is clearly identified.

Precautions & Warnings

Iron can interact with antacids and tetracyclines, which may reduce the absorption of all of them if taken together. Tetracyclines should not be used during pregnancy.

Overdose Effects

Iron overdose symptoms include stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and even circulatory collapse. In severe cases, Cpefro TR can lead to brain, liver, and kidney damage. The timed-release capsule helps reduce the amount of iron absorbed too quickly. If an overdose occurs, gastric lavage and desferrioxamine (a treatment for iron poisoning) should be given. Monitoring iron levels is important, and intravenous desferrioxamine may be required for severe cases.

Therapeutic Class

Iron & Vitamin Combined preparations.

Storage Conditions

Store below 25°C, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
