Pharmacology
Cpmycin works by stopping protein production in bacteria, specifically by targeting certain parts of their ribosomes. Cpmycin is effective against many types of bacteria, including some that cause respiratory and skin infections, as well as mycoplasma and chlamydia bacteria.
Absorption: Cpmycin is absorbed better when taken with food, and its absorption can be affected by the presence of food in the stomach.
Blood concentration: After taking a 500 mg dose, peak levels are reached in 1 to 4 hours. The drug stays in the bloodstream for about 1 to 4 hours.
Distribution: Cpmycin spreads widely in body tissues and fluids, especially in the liver and spleen. Cpmycin can cross into the cerebrospinal fluid during infections of the brain lining and also passes through the placenta and is found in breast milk.
Excretion: A small portion of Cpmycin is excreted through urine, and the majority is eliminated through the bile.
Dosage & Administration
Adults and Children over 8 years: 250-500 mg every six hours for mild to moderate infections, which can be increased up to 4 grams a day for severe cases.
Elderly: No special dosage recommendations. Cpmycin can be taken three times or twice a day, dividing the total daily dose into equal parts.
Children aged 2 to 8 years: 250 mg every six hours or 30-50 mg/kg body weight per day divided into four equal doses.
Infants and Children up to 2 years: 500 mg divided into doses or 30-50 mg/kg body weight divided into doses.
Interaction
When taken with high doses of theophylline, Cpmycin can increase the level of theophylline in the blood, which can lead to toxicity. In such cases, the dose of theophylline should be reduced.
Contraindications
Cpmycin is not recommended for people who are allergic to Cpmycin.
Side Effects
Allergic reactions are rare and usually mild, though severe reactions like anaphylaxis can occur. Some people may experience stomach upset, nausea, and vomiting, but this usually improves over time without changing the dosage.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Studies have not shown harm to unborn babies, but caution should be used when prescribing Cpmycin to pregnant or breastfeeding women, as Cpmycin can cross the placenta and appear in breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings
Cpmycin should be used carefully in people with liver problems since Cpmycin is mainly removed from the body through the bile.
