Indications

Cpvit E is used to treat and prevent vitamin E deficiency. Cpvit E is also suggested as an antioxidant to help with various health conditions such as:

  • Alzheimer’s Disease
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis Pain
  • Nerve Damage caused by Chemotherapy
  • Male Infertility
  • Age-related Macular Degeneration
  • Keratectomy
  • Premenstrual Syndrome

  • Heart Disease (to improve the effectiveness of nitrates)

Pharmacology

Cpvit E acts as an antioxidant in the body, protecting polyunsaturated fatty acids and other oxygen-sensitive substances like vitamin A and C from damage. In premature babies, a lack of vitamin E can cause irritability, swelling, blood clots, and anemia. Adults and children with low vitamin E levels may experience muscle weakness, short red blood cell survival, and increased damage from oxidation.

Dosage & Administration

For Age-related Macular Degeneration: 400-600 IU daily.

For Heart Disease (to improve effectiveness of Nitrates): 200 IU three times daily.

For Dementia/Alzheimer’s Disease: 800-2000 IU one to two times daily.

For Rheumatoid Arthritis Pain: 600 IU daily.

For Male Infertility: 200-600 IU daily.

For Menstrual Syndrome: 400 IU daily.

For Painful Menstrual Periods: 200 IU daily.

Interaction

Cpvit E may reduce the absorption of Vitamin A and affect the function of Vitamin K. Cpvit E can also increase the effects of the blood thinner Warfarin.

Contraindications

Cpvit E is contraindicated for people with a known allergy to vitamin E or related components. Those with rare inherited problems like fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption, or sucrose-isomaltase insufficiency should not take this medicine.

Side Effects

Side effects are rare but may include diarrhea and stomach pain if taking more than 1000 IU daily.

Pregnancy & Lactation

There is no evidence about the safety of high doses of vitamin E during pregnancy, so Cpvit E is best avoided, especially in the first trimester. There is no information about whether Cpvit E passes into breast milk, so Cpvit E is advised not to use Cpvit E during lactation.

Precautions & Warnings

Cpvit E may increase bleeding in people with vitamin K deficiency or those taking blood thinners. Cpvit E’s important to monitor blood clotting levels (prothrombin time and INR). Cpvit E may also increase the risk of blood clots in patients who are prone to thrombosis, especially women taking estrogen-based contraceptives.

Overdose Effects

Overdosing may cause temporary stomach issues. If necessary, general supportive measures should be used.
