Indications
Cravacin is used to treat moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis in adults who need systemic therapy or phototherapy. Cravacin is not recommended to use Cravacin with other strong immune-suppressing medications.
Pharmacology
Cravacin is a drug that blocks TYK2, a type of enzyme in the body. TYK2 helps in sending signals that affect immune responses. By blocking TYK2, Cravacin helps control inflammation caused by psoriasis. However, the exact way Cravacin helps treat psoriasis is not completely understood yet.
Dosage & Administration
Before Starting Treatment: Check for tuberculosis (TB) infection before taking Cravacin. If TB is found, treat the TB first before starting this medicine.
Dosage: Take 6 mg of the medicine once a day, with or without food. Do not crush, cut, or chew the tablets.
Use in Children: Its safety and effectiveness in children are not known.
Use in Older Adults: No differences in effectiveness have been seen between older and younger adults.
Use in Liver Problems: Cravacin is not recommended for patients with severe liver problems, but no dosage change is needed for those with mild or moderate liver problems.
Use in Kidney Problems: No dosage change is needed for patients with mild, moderate, or severe kidney problems or those on dialysis.
Interaction
When taken with certain drugs like Cyclosporine, fluvoxamine, or ritonavir, Cravacin does not cause significant changes in how the medicine works in the body. Cravacin also has no major effect when taken with drugs like Rosuvastatin, methotrexate, or oral contraceptives.
Contraindications
Cravacin should not be used by anyone who has had a severe allergic reaction to this medicine or any of its ingredients.
Side Effects
Common side effects include a cold, sore throat, and sinus infections. Cravacin can also cause cold sores, mouth sores, acne, and inflammation of hair follicles. Serious allergic reactions may happen, including swelling of the face, throat tightness, or trouble breathing.
Pregnancy & Lactation
There isn’t enough information on the effects of this medicine during pregnancy. In animal studies, Cravacin did not harm the developing baby. There is no data on whether Cravacin passes into breast milk, so talk to your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to be pregnant, or breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings
If you are allergic to this medicine, stop using Cravacin. This medicine may increase the risk of infections, so avoid Cravacin if you have a serious infection. If you develop a serious infection, stop using Cravacin until the infection is gone. You should also be tested for tuberculosis (TB) before starting treatment.
Certain types of cancers were seen in clinical trials. Regular checks on triglycerides and liver enzymes should be done. Avoid live vaccines while using this medicine.
This medicine may cause problems such as high blood pressure, blood clots, or heart issues in some people, but these issues have not been fully studied yet.
