Indications
Cyrin is indicated for relieving muscle spasms caused by acute and painful musculoskeletal conditions, often as part of rest and physical therapy. The improvement is seen in the reduction of muscle spasm, pain, tenderness, limited movement, and restricted daily activities.
Pharmacology
Cyrin is a muscle relaxant that works in the brain and nervous system, similar to tricyclic antidepressants. Cyrin affects the brainstem to reduce motor activities, particularly those related to muscle spasms. Cyrin is used to treat painful muscle spasms associated with musculoskeletal issues.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: The typical dose is 5-10 mg three times a day, with a maximum of 60 mg per day. Treatment should not last more than 2 or 3 weeks.
Elderly: Start with 5 mg and increase the dose gradually as needed.
Hepatic impairment: Use with caution for those with mild liver issues, starting at 5 mg and gradually increasing. Cyrin is not recommended for those with moderate to severe liver problems.
Pediatric use: Safety and effectiveness for children under 15 have not been established.
Interaction
Cyrin may cause serious interactions with MAO inhibitors. Also, Cyrin can increase the effects of alcohol, barbiturates, and other CNS depressants.
Contraindications
Cyrin is contraindicated in people allergic to any of its components, those who are using MAO inhibitors or have recently stopped using them (within the last 14 days), people recovering from a heart attack, and those with heart problems like arrhythmias, heart block, or congestive heart failure. Cyrin should also be avoided in people with hyperthyroidism.
Side Effects
Common side effects include drowsiness, dry mouth, and dizziness. These are generally less frequent than in clinical trials.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Cyrin is classified as Pregnancy Category B, meaning Cyrin should only be used during pregnancy if necessary. Caution should be used when administering Cyrin to nursing mothers.
Precautions & Warnings
Cyrin should be used carefully in people with urinary retention, glaucoma, high eye pressure, or those on anticholinergic medications.
Overdose Effects
Overdose can be dangerous and even fatal. Toxicity symptoms can appear quickly, so medical monitoring is required immediately after an overdose.
