Indications
Cystosan 100 is used to relieve bladder pain or discomfort caused by interstitial cystitis.
Pharmacology
Cystosan 100 is a type of sugar compound that helps with growth factors in the body. Cystosan 100 interacts with specific proteins and has been shown to inhibit the growth of certain cancer cells in studies.
Dosage & Administration
Adult & Elderly: Take one 100 mg capsule three times a day, with water, either 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals. After 3 months, the doctor will check if Cystosan 100’s helping. If Cystosan 100’s not helping and side effects are not an issue, treatment may continue for another 3 months. If there’s no improvement by 6 months, the treatment’s value and risks are unclear.
Pediatric patients: Safety and effectiveness have not been established in children under 16 years old.
Interaction
When taken with warfarin, a blood thinner, Cystosan 100 doesn’t significantly change the way the blood thinners work. The INR, which is a measure of blood clotting, stays similar when taken with either a placebo or pentosan polysulfate sodium.
Contraindications
Cystosan 100 is not safe for people who are allergic to this medicine or related ingredients.
Side Effects
Side effects include hair loss (4%), diarrhea (4%), nausea (4%), headache (3%), rash (3%), indigestion (2%), stomach pain (2%), liver issues (1%), and dizziness (1%).
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy: Studies in animals have shown no harm, but more research is needed. Use during pregnancy only if necessary.
Nursing Mothers: Cystosan 100 is not known if this medicine is passed into breast milk. Be cautious when using Cystosan 100 while breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings
Cystosan 100 has mild blood-thinning effects, which could lead to bleeding in some patients. If you have a history of bleeding problems or are taking blood thinners, consult your doctor. Patients with conditions like aneurysms, bleeding disorders, or gastrointestinal issues should be carefully evaluated before using this drug. Hair loss is a possible side effect, particularly alopecia areata (a condition where hair falls out in patches).
