Indications
Daflon 500 is indicated for the treatment of acute hemorrhoidal attacks, chronic hemorrhoidal disease, and chronic venous insufficiency of the lower limbs with symptoms like heavy legs, pain, and nighttime cramps.
Pharmacology
Daflon 500 is a phlebotonic drug and a vascular protector. Daflon 500 strengthens the tone of veins by increasing the activity of parietal noradrenaline. This reduces venous capacity, distensibility, and emptying time. Daflon 500 also protects the microcirculation by fighting damage, reducing inflammation, and inhibiting the release of harmful substances like free radicals and prostaglandins. Daflon 500 helps normalize capillary permeability and strengthens capillary resistance. Daflon 500 also supports the lymphatic system by increasing lymph flow and pressure.
Dosage & Administration
For Diosmin 450 mg & Hesperidin 50 mg:
- Acute hemorrhoidal attacks: 3 tablets twice daily for the first 4 days, then 2 tablets twice daily for 3 days, and 1 tablet twice daily for maintenance.
- Chronic hemorrhoids: 1 tablet twice daily.
- Chronic venous insufficiency: 1 tablet twice daily for the first 7 days. The duration may be extended based on the severity.
For Diosmin 900 mg & Hesperidin 100 mg:
- Acute hemorrhoidal attacks: 1 tablet thrice daily for the first 4 days, then 1 tablet twice daily for 3 days, and 1 tablet once daily for maintenance.
- Relapse or chronic hemorrhoids: 1 tablet once daily for 3 months.
- Chronic venous insufficiency: 1 tablet once daily for 2-6 months.
- Leg wounds: 1 tablet once daily for 2 months.
Interaction
No known drug interactions have been reported in clinical trials.
Contraindications
Daflon 500 is contraindicated for anyone with a hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients. Chronic venous insufficiency and its complications should be diagnosed and managed by a doctor.
Side Effects
Some mild side effects like stomach issues or discomfort have been reported. In such cases, discontinuing treatment may not be necessary.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Animal studies have shown no harmful effects, and no harmful effects in humans have been reported either. However, due to a lack of data on breast milk excretion, breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment.
Precautions & Warnings
If symptoms don’t improve within 15 days, consult a doctor. Diosmin has been given to some breast cancer patients experiencing swelling, which helped reduce arm swelling without affecting the cancer. There is no evidence of cancer-causing effects, but as a precaution, Daflon 500 is not recommended for patients with a history of cancer.
