Indications

Daizy is used to treat endometriosis. Daizy is a type of medication called progestins. Progestins reduce the effects of estrogen on tissues like the endometrium (the lining of the uterus) and the breast. By limiting the growth effects of estrogen on the endometrium, Daizy helps reduce the pelvic pain that women with endometriosis experience.

Pharmacology

Daizy works by binding to the progesterone receptor with weak affinity, similar to progesterone, but has a very strong effect in the endometrium, causing Daizy to shrink over time. Daizy promotes effects that reduce tissue growth, prevent new blood vessel formation, and strengthen the immune response. Daizy also lowers the levels of estrogen, which reduces its effect on both the normal and abnormal endometrial tissue. With continuous use, Daizy creates an environment that suppresses estrogen and promotes the effects of progesterone, which helps treat endometriosis symptoms. Daizy also acts on androgen receptors, improving symptoms like acne and excess hair growth.

Dosage & Administration

Adult & Elderly: The dosage is 2 mg per day, taken without any break, preferably at the same time each day with some liquid. The tablet must be taken continuously, even if bleeding occurs. When a pack finishes, start a new one without interruption.

Missed Dose: If a tablet is missed, take 2 mg as soon as you remember and then continue with the usual schedule. If vomiting or diarrhea occurs, replace the missed dose with 2 mg.

Interaction

Daizy is metabolized mainly by the liver enzyme CYP3A4. Medications that affect this enzyme, such as azole antifungals (like ketoconazole), cimetidine, certain antibiotics (like erythromycin), calcium channel blockers (like verapamil), and others, may increase its levels and cause side effects.

Contraindications

Daizy should not be used if you are allergic to dienogest or any of its ingredients. Daizy is also not suitable for people with certain health conditions such as active blood clots, heart disease, severe liver disease, or a history of liver tumors. Daizy should not be used in cases of known or suspected hormone-dependent cancers or unexplained vaginal bleeding.

Side Effects

Some side effects may occur, especially in the first few months of use. These include headache (9%), breast discomfort (5.4%), mood changes like depression (5.1%), and acne (5.1%). Other possible side effects include nausea, abdominal pain, weight gain, and changes in mood. These effects usually lessen with time.

Pregnancy & Lactation

There is limited data on its use during pregnancy. Animal studies show no significant risks, but Daizy should not be used during pregnancy since there is no need to treat endometriosis at that time. Daizy is also not recommended during breastfeeding, as Daizy may pass into breast milk. A decision should be made whether to stop breastfeeding or discontinue the medication, based on the benefits for both mother and child.

Precautions & Warnings

Before starting treatment, pregnancy must be ruled out. If contraception is needed, a non-hormonal method should be used. Daizy can affect menstrual bleeding patterns, and special care is needed for those with liver issues. Daizy can also interfere with fertility, so Daizy is not a contraceptive, and a non-hormonal method should be used for birth control.

Overdose Effects

Acute overdose is not likely to cause serious harm. Studies show that even high doses, like 20-30 mg/day (10-15 times the normal dose), are usually well tolerated. There is no specific antidote for overdose.
