Indications
Daprosis 4 is used to treat anemia caused by chronic kidney disease in adults who have been on dialysis for at least four months. Daprosis 4 is not a replacement for blood transfusions in cases needing urgent treatment and should not be used for anemia in patients who are not on dialysis.
Pharmacology
Daprosis 4 works by helping the body produce more red blood cells. Daprosis 4 blocks certain enzymes, leading to increased levels of a natural protein that helps in red blood cell production. This improves iron availability and increases hemoglobin levels.
Dosage & Administration
Before starting treatment, doctors should check iron levels and liver function. If iron levels are low, supplements may be needed. The dose is adjusted based on hemoglobin levels. Daprosis 4 should be taken whole, with or without food, but not cut, crushed, or chewed. If a dose is missed, Daprosis 4 should be taken as soon as possible, unless Daprosis 4 is the same day as the next dose. Double doses should not be taken.
Interaction
Strong inhibitors of a certain enzyme (CYP2C8), like gemfibrozil, should not be used with Daprosis 4 as they can increase its effects too much. Some medications, like rifampin, may make Daprosis 4 less effective.
Contraindications
Daprosis 4 should not be used in people taking strong CYP2C8 inhibitors like gemfibrozil or those with uncontrolled high blood pressure.
Side Effects
Possible side effects include heart failure requiring hospitalization, high blood pressure, and stomach or intestinal damage.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Daprosis 4 may harm the baby if used during pregnancy. Breastfeeding should be avoided for at least a week after the last dose.
Precautions & Warnings
Daprosis 4 may increase the risk of heart attack, stroke, blood clots, heart failure, high blood pressure, and stomach damage. Daprosis 4 may also lead to serious health issues in patients with kidney disease who are not on dialysis. There is also a potential risk of cancer.
Overdose Effects
An overdose may cause headaches and stomach problems like nausea. There is no specific antidote, and dialysis will not remove the medicine effectively.
