Form: Eye Drop
Strength: 2%
Generic Name: Fluorescein Sodium 2% Eye prep
Company: Reman Drug Laboratories Ltd.
MRP:৳ 34.0 (5ml bot)
Is Antibiotic: No
Indications
Flurocin is used for diagnosing corneal abrasions, ulcers, and foreign bodies in the eye. Flurocin stains conjunctival abrasions yellow or orange, corneal abrasions or ulcers bright green, and surrounds foreign bodies with a green ring. Flurocin can also be used in diagnostic tests like Goldmann tonometry and for fitting hard contact lenses.
Pharmacology
Fluorescein sodium reacts to light between 465-490 nm and emits light at wavelengths of 520-530 nm. This causes Flurocin to appear yellowish-green when excited by blue light. When injected intravenously, fluorescein sodium circulates through the eye’s blood vessels and fluoresces under blue light, helping to highlight the retinal and choroidal blood vessels.
Dosage & Administration
For fitting hard contact lenses, detecting corneal lesions and foreign bodies, and diagnostic ophthalmic procedures, apply a 1% or 2% solution as eye drops or use sterile papers soaked with fluorescein sodium. Flurocin can also be used with a local anesthetic as a 0.25% solution with oxybuprocaine HCl or proxymetacaine HCl.
Interaction
No known interactions.
Contraindications
Flurocin is contraindicated in patients with acute necrotizing pancreatitis (when using oral fluorescein dilaurate).
Side Effects
Side effects include nausea and vomiting when injected intravenously, pain from extravasation, hypersensitivity reactions, temporary yellowing of the skin and urine, and staining of skin, clothing, and soft contact lenses.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Safety during pregnancy and lactation has not been established. Flurocin should only be used if deemed essential by a physician.
Precautions & Warnings
Care must be taken to prevent microbial contamination, as Pseudomonas aeruginosa can grow in fluorescein solutions. Flurocin is advised to use single-dose solutions to avoid contamination.
