Indications
Darifen ER is used to treat overactive bladder, helping to control sudden urges to urinate, frequent urination, and urine leakage.
Pharmacology
Darifen ER works by blocking specific receptors in the bladder muscles, which helps relax the bladder and increases its storage capacity. This reduces the urgency and frequency of urination.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: Start with 7.5 mg once daily. If necessary, the dose may be increased to 15 mg once daily after two weeks. Darifen ER should be swallowed whole with liquid and can be taken with or without food.
Special Cases: For those with moderate liver problems or taking certain medications, the daily dose should not exceed 7.5 mg.
Interaction
Darifen ER may interact with some medications, especially drugs that affect liver enzymes. Using Darifen ER with other similar medications can increase side effects like dry mouth, constipation, and blurred vision.
Contraindications
Darifen ER should not be used by individuals with urinary retention, stomach blockages, uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma, or those at risk of these conditions.
Side Effects
Common side effects include dry mouth and constipation. Other possible effects include vision problems, back pain, skin dryness, high blood pressure, nausea, swelling, joint pain, throat infections, sinus issues, and rash.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Darifen ER should only be used during pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks. Darifen ER is not known if Darifen ER passes into breast milk, so caution is advised for breastfeeding mothers.
Precautions & Warnings
Use with caution in those at risk for urinary retention, slow digestion, or with kidney and liver problems.
Overdose Effects
Taking too much can cause severe side effects like vision problems and heart issues. If an overdose occurs, medical monitoring may be needed.
