Pharmacology

Deflamax 6mg works by reducing inflammation and suppressing the immune system. Deflamax 6mg does this by blocking certain enzymes and chemicals that cause inflammation and immune responses in the body.

Dosage & Administration

Adults: For short-term conditions, the initial dose may be up to 120 mg/day. For maintenance, doses typically range from 3-18 mg/day depending on the condition.

Rheumatoid arthritis: Maintenance doses are usually between 3-18 mg/day, with the lowest effective dose being preferred.

Bronchial asthma: During an acute attack, higher doses (48-72 mg/day) may be required. For maintenance, the lowest dose needed to control symptoms should be used.

Children: The dosage for children should be the lowest effective dose, often ranging from 0.25-1.5 mg/kg/day. For conditions like juvenile arthritis or nephrotic syndrome, the dose will vary based on clinical needs.

Deflazacort withdrawal: If used for extended periods or in high doses, Deflamax 6mg should be gradually reduced, especially in cases where the disease may relapse.

Interaction

Deflamax 6mg is metabolized by the liver. If used with drugs that speed up liver processes, the dose of Deflazacort may need to be increased. On the other hand, drugs that slow down liver activity might require a dose reduction.

Contraindications

Deflamax 6mg should not be used by individuals who are allergic to its components or those who are receiving live virus vaccines.

Side Effects

Possible side effects include stomach issues, muscle and bone problems, changes in hormones, mood changes, eye issues, and fluid imbalances. Deflamax 6mg may also increase the risk of infections and skin issues like acne or thinning skin.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Deflamax 6mg can cross the placenta, so Deflamax 6mg should only be used during pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks. Deflamax 6mg may affect the growth of the baby. While breastfeeding, low doses of Deflazacort are unlikely to affect the baby, but higher doses may cause some adrenal suppression in the infant.
