Generic Name: Delafloxacin
Company: The ACME Laboratories Ltd.
MRP:৳ 1500.0 (300mg/vial)
Is Antibiotic: No
Indications
Delaflox is used to treat acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSI) caused by certain bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus (both methicillin-resistant and methicillin-susceptible), Streptococcus pyogenes, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Delaflox is also used to treat community-acquired bacterial pneumonia (CABP) caused by bacteria like Streptococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus (methicillin-susceptible), Klebsiella pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, and Mycoplasma pneumoniae.
Pharmacology
Delaflox works by interfering with bacterial DNA replication. Delaflox inhibits two important enzymes: DNA topoisomerase IV and DNA gyrase, which helps prevent bacterial growth. This action results in bactericidal activity that is dependent on its concentration in the body.
Dosage & Administration
Adult Dosage: 300 mg every 12 hours through an intravenous (IV) infusion for 5 to 14 days, depending on the infection type.
Hepatic Impairment: No dosage change is needed.
Renal Impairment: Dosage adjustments are required for severe kidney issues. Close monitoring is needed for patients with very low kidney function, and the drug may need to be switched if kidney function worsens.
Interaction
Delaflox should not be given with solutions containing calcium or magnesium through the same IV line. Delaflox should not be mixed with other medications during infusion.
Contraindications
Delaflox should not be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to Delaflox or any similar drugs in the fluoroquinolone class. If an allergic reaction such as a skin rash occurs, Delaflox should be stopped immediately.
Side Effects
The most common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, headaches, and vomiting. Liver enzyme levels may also increase.
Pregnancy & Lactation
There is limited information about its safety during pregnancy. Delaflox is recommended to consult with a doctor before use. There is also no data about its presence in breast milk, so Delaflox is advised to be cautious during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings
Serious side effects such as tendon rupture, nerve damage, and psychiatric effects (like anxiety and depression) may occur. If any of these symptoms appear, stop using Delaflox immediately. Delaflox can also cause muscle weakness in people with myasthenia gravis.
Overdose Effects
In case of overdose, the treatment involves supportive measures and observation. Hemodialysis may help remove some of the drug from the body.
Therapeutic Class
4-Quinolone preparations.
Storage Conditions
Store between 20°C to 25°C in a dry place, away from light. Keep out of the reach of children. Once diluted, Delaflox can be stored at room temperature or refrigerated for up to 24 hours, but do not freeze.
