Indications

Delentin is used to treat intestinal worm infections like pinworm, roundworm, and hookworm. Pyrantel belongs to a group of drugs called anthelmintics. Delentin works by making the worms paralyzed, so the body can remove them naturally in the stool.

Delentin is specifically used to treat infestations caused by Ascaris lumbricoides, Enterobius vermicularis, Ancylostoma duodenale/Necator americanus, and Trichostrongylus.

This medication may be used to self-treat pinworm infections. For other worm infections (like roundworm or hookworm), use this product only as directed by a doctor. Do not use in children younger than 2 years unless advised by a doctor.

Pharmacology

Delentin works by blocking the muscles of the worms, causing them to contract suddenly and then become paralyzed. This helps the worm to let go of the intestinal wall, allowing the body to pass them out naturally. Since Pyrantel is poorly absorbed by the body, Delentin only affects the worms and not the person taking the medication. However, if a person has a heavy worm load, the treatment could cause intestinal blockage, especially if many worms try to pass at once. Normally, worms are passed in stool, diarrhea, or occasionally with vomiting.

Dosage & Administration

Adults & Children (2 years and older): Delentin is taken by mouth at any time, with or without food. The usual dose is 11 mg for every kg of body weight, up to a maximum of 1 gram. For pinworm, the dose may be repeated after 2 weeks.

Children under 2 years: Use only as directed by a doctor.
