Indications
Deloxi is used to treat major depression, anxiety, diabetic nerve pain, fibromyalgia, and chronic muscle pain.
Pharmacology
Deloxi is a medicine that affects serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain. Deloxi works mainly through the liver and does not affect other body chemicals significantly.
Dosage & Administration
For Major Depression: Start with 40-60 mg a day. The usual dose is 60 mg per day. Maximum is 120 mg/day.
For Generalized Anxiety: Start with 60 mg a day. Maximum is 120 mg/day.
For Diabetic Nerve Pain: Start with 60 mg a day. Maximum is 60 mg/day.
For Fibromyalgia: Start with 30 mg a day. Maximum is 60 mg/day.
For Chronic Muscle Pain: Start with 30 mg a day. Maximum is 60 mg/day.
Higher doses may have more side effects, so lower doses are suggested when possible.
Interaction
This medicine is affected by certain other drugs. For example, some medicines can increase its levels in the body, like fluvoxamine or ciprofloxacin. These should be avoided together.
Contraindications
Deloxi is not suitable for people allergic to this drug, those with bipolar disorder, heavy alcohol use, or severe liver disease. Caution should be taken in people with glaucoma.
Side Effects
Common side effects include nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, tiredness, sleepiness, sweating, and weakness. Deloxi may slightly increase blood pressure.
Pregnancy & Lactation
If pregnant or breastfeeding, consult a doctor before using this medication. Deloxi should only be used if the benefit outweighs the risk during pregnancy. Deloxi is not recommended while breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings
This medication can cause suicidal thoughts in some people, so they should be monitored. Blood pressure should be checked regularly. Deloxi can also increase the risk of bleeding when used with certain pain medications.
Overdose Effects
If too much is taken, Deloxi can cause symptoms like stomach pain, nausea, dizziness, and heart problems. There is no specific treatment for overdose, but general measures should be taken immediately.
