Indications
Delpraz 60 is used to heal all stages of erosive esophagitis (EE) within 8 weeks. Delpraz 60 also helps maintain healing of EE and relieves heartburn for up to 6 months. Delpraz 60 is used to treat heartburn caused by non-erosive Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) for 4 weeks.
Pharmacology
Delpraz 60 is a Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) that reduces stomach acid by blocking the final step of acid production. Delpraz 60 specifically inhibits the (H+/K+)-ATPase enzyme in stomach cells. Delpraz 60 is a form of lansoprazole and comes in a dual delayed-release capsule. This capsule releases the medicine in two stages, with peaks occurring 1-2 hours and again 4-5 hours after taking Delpraz 60. Delpraz 60 is broken down in the liver and passed out through urine.
Dosage & Administration
For Maintenance of Healed Erosive Esophagitis & Relief of Heartburn: 30 mg once daily.
For Symptomatic Non-Erosive GERD: 30 mg once daily for 4 weeks.
For Healing of Erosive Esophagitis: 60 mg once daily for up to 8 weeks.
For Dexlansoprazole MUPS: 30 mg once daily for 6 months in adults or 16 weeks for patients aged 12-17 years for maintenance. For symptomatic non-erosive GERD, 30 mg once daily for 4 weeks.
Interaction
Delpraz 60 may interact with medicines such as Atazanavir, Warfarin, Tacrolimus, Clopidogrel, and Methotrexate. There is no data available on food interactions.
Contraindications
Delpraz 60 should not be used by patients who are allergic to any of its ingredients.
Side Effects
Common side effects include diarrhea, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and gas.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Delpraz 60 is classified as Pregnancy Category B. There have been no well-controlled studies in pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Precautions & Warnings
Delpraz 60 should be used carefully in patients at risk for gastric cancer, Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea, bone fractures, low magnesium levels, and those taking Methotrexate.
Overdose Effects
No serious overdoses have been reported. Taking high doses (up to 120 mg or a single 300 mg dose) has not resulted in death or severe reactions.
