Indications
Doxavit 10 is used to treat nausea and vomiting during pregnancy in women who do not respond to other treatments.
Pharmacology
Doxylamine Succinate is an antihistamine that blocks histamine receptors in the brain. Doxavit 10 reduces the feeling of nausea and prevents vomiting. Pyridoxine Hydrochloride is a form of Vitamin B6. Doxavit 10 helps to stop nausea and vomiting due to its anti-nausea properties.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: Start with one tablet at bedtime on the first day. If this works, continue taking one tablet each night. If symptoms don’t improve, take one tablet in the morning and one at bedtime. The maximum dose is two tablets per day. Take on an empty stomach with water. Swallow whole, do not crush or chew. Take daily, not on an as-needed basis.
Interaction
Doxavit 10 should not be used with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) because they can increase side effects. Doxavit 10 is also not recommended to take with alcohol or other medicines that can cause drowsiness.
Contraindications
Doxavit 10 should not be used in women who are allergic to any of its ingredients or who are taking MAO inhibitors.
Side Effects
Doxavit 10 may cause drowsiness or other accidents, especially if taken with other medications that also cause sleepiness.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Doxavit 10 is safe for pregnancy, but should only be used when necessary. Both medicines pass into breast milk, so be cautious when breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings
This medicine may cause drowsiness, so avoid driving or using heavy machinery. Doxavit 10 should not be used with alcohol or other CNS depressants. Use with caution in people with asthma, glaucoma, ulcers, or bladder problems.
Overdose Effects
Signs of overdose may include restlessness, dry mouth, confusion, dizziness, and a fast heart rate. In serious cases, Doxavit 10 can cause seizures or death. Treatment includes washing out the stomach or using activated charcoal.
