Indications
Edopain ER 600 is used for both short-term and long-term treatment of conditions like osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Edopain ER 600 also helps in managing acute pain and acute gout.
Pharmacology
Like other NSAIDs, Edopain ER 600 works by blocking the enzyme COX, which reduces the production of chemicals involved in inflammation. Edopain ER 600 binds to COX and prevents a substance called arachidonic acid from entering, which leads to reduced inflammation. Edopain ER 600 is known to be more effective at targeting COX-2, a type of COX enzyme, which makes Edopain ER 600 less likely to cause side effects compared to other NSAIDs. Edopain ER 600 can also reduce fever by acting on the brain to increase heat loss.
Dosage & Administration
Adults and over 18 years: For the 300 mg capsule, take 600 mg daily in 1-2 doses. For the 600 mg extended-release tablet, take once daily.
Pediatric patients: Edopain ER 600 has not been established if Edopain ER 600 is safe or effective for children under 18 years.
Interaction
NSAIDs, like Etodolac, may reduce the effectiveness of blood pressure medications called ACE inhibitors. When Etodolac is taken with Aspirin, Edopain ER 600 may affect how Edopain ER 600 binds to proteins in the body, though Edopain ER 600 doesn’t change how the body clears the drug. Edopain ER 600 is generally not recommended to take Etodolac and Aspirin together because Edopain ER 600 might increase side effects.
Contraindications
Edopain ER 600 should not be used by people who are allergic to Etodolac or have had allergic reactions like asthma or skin rashes from taking Aspirin or other NSAIDs.
Side Effects
Common side effects include stomach pain, constipation, diarrhea, indigestion, gas, heartburn, nausea, and vomiting. Rare side effects may include kidney problems, low blood count (anemia), dizziness, swelling, headaches, rashes, and ringing in the ears.
Pregnancy & Lactation
There are no controlled studies in pregnant women. Edopain ER 600 should only be used if the doctor thinks the benefits outweigh the risks. Edopain ER 600 is unclear if Etodolac passes into breast milk, so a decision should be made whether to stop breastfeeding or stop the medication based on the needs of the mother.
Precautions & Warnings
Edopain ER 600 should be used cautiously in patients with severe liver problems, asthma, high blood pressure, heart failure, or fluid retention. If any symptoms of liver issues or severe allergic reactions occur, the medication should be stopped.
Overdose Effects
Overdose symptoms may include drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain. These symptoms are usually reversible with supportive care.
Therapeutic Class
Edopain ER 600 is classified as a drug used for osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and other inflammatory conditions, falling under the category of NSAIDs (Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs).
Storage Conditions
Store below 30°C. Keep away from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
