Indications
Facid HC is indicated for treating skin conditions where bacterial infections are already present or may occur. These conditions include primary irritant dermatitis, contact allergic dermatitis, eczema (such as atopic, infantile, discoid, and stasis), and seborrhoeic dermatitis.
Pharmacology
Facid HC is a combination cream containing 2% Fusidic Acid and 1% Hydrocortisone Acetate. Fusidic Acid has strong antibacterial properties and is effective against bacteria like Staphylococci, Streptococci, Corynebacteria, Neisseria, and some types of Clostridia and Bacteroides. Fusidic Acid works by preventing bacteria from producing proteins, which stops their growth. Hydrocortisone is a corticosteroid that helps reduce skin inflammation, relieves itching, and has some immune-suppressing and anti-mitotic effects.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: Apply the cream 3 times a day to the affected areas and gently massage for 2 weeks. If symptoms improve, a shorter treatment may be considered.
Children: Facid HC is not recommended for children under 3 years of age.
Interaction
If absorbed into the body, Fusidic Acid may affect the metabolism of certain drugs that are processed in the liver, but no clear evidence of this has been found. There are no known dangerous drug interactions with topical Hydrocortisone Acetate.
Contraindications
Facid HC is contraindicated for people with an allergy to Fusidic Acid, Hydrocortisone Acetate, or any of the cream’s ingredients. Facid HC should also not be used for skin infections caused by organisms that the cream cannot treat, fungal infections, tuberculosis of the skin, syphilis-related skin infections, chickenpox, skin eruptions after vaccinations, or viral skin diseases.
Side Effects
Side effects of Fusidic Acid can include mild irritation at the application site, but this usually doesn’t require stopping the treatment. Rare hypersensitivity reactions have been reported. Common side effects include dryness, itching, burning, local irritation, stretch marks, skin thinning, changes in skin color, and secondary infections. If applied to the face, Facid HC may cause acne rosacea or perioral dermatitis.
Pregnancy & Lactation
The safety of Fusidic Acid and Hydrocortisone Acetate during pregnancy or breastfeeding has not been established. The cream should only be used during these times if the potential benefits outweigh the risks to the baby.
Precautions & Warnings
Facid HC should not be used near the eyes because Fusidic Acid can cause eye irritation. When used on large areas of skin, under occlusive dressings, or on sensitive areas like the face, scalp, armpits, or groin, there is a higher risk of absorbing too much of the cream, which could lead to adrenal suppression and other side effects.
