Contraindications

Feroplus should not be used in patients who are allergic to any of its components or those with iron overload.

Side Effects

Common side effects include dark stools, nausea, and gastrointestinal discomfort like constipation, vomiting, or diarrhea. Zinc may also cause stomach upset. These capsules are designed to reduce such irritation. Rare allergic reactions have also been reported.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Avoid using any drug during the first trimester unless absolutely necessary. Iron should only be used during the first trimester if there is clear evidence of deficiency. Supplementation with Zinc and Folic Acid is recommended during the rest of the pregnancy.

Precautions & Warnings

Be cautious in patients who might develop iron overload, like those with haemochromatosis or certain blood disorders. If treatment does not seem effective, other causes of anemia should be investigated. Iron and Zinc may interfere with the absorption of other medications, such as tetracycline antibiotics. The absorption of Iron may also be reduced by antacids or penicillamine. In patients with kidney issues, there may be a risk of Zinc buildup.

Overdose Effects

Iron overdose can be dangerous, especially in children. Immediate medical attention is required. Treatment may include gastric lavage or inducing vomiting if done early. If serious symptoms occur, such as shock or coma, intravenous chelation therapy may be needed. Zinc overdose can cause severe gastrointestinal irritation and other issues like bleeding or tissue damage, which may require chelation therapy and supportive care.

Therapeutic Class

Iron, Vitamin & Mineral Combined preparation.

Storage Conditions

Store below 30˚C, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
