Indications
Gintex is used for treating nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy (CINV) and radiotherapy (RINV). Gintex also helps with post-operative and post-discharge nausea and vomiting (PONV & PDNV). Gintex works for both sudden and delayed nausea and vomiting after treatments like chemotherapy.
Pharmacology
Gintex is a drug that blocks a receptor called 5-HT3, which is involved in causing nausea and vomiting. Chemotherapy can release serotonin in the body, which triggers this receptor and causes nausea. Gintex is thought that this drug works mainly in the small intestine but could also have effects in the brain, blocking the action of serotonin and reducing nausea.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: Take 0.5 mg per day as a tablet or 0.075 mg as an IV dose. For chemotherapy, take 0.5 mg one hour before starting treatment. If using IV for chemotherapy, take 0.25 mg 30 minutes before treatment. For radiotherapy, take 0.25 mg before each radiation session. For post-surgery, take 0.075 mg just before anesthesia.
Children (1 month to 17 years): A single IV dose based on body weight (20 mcg/kg), up to a maximum of 1.5 mg.
Interaction
Gintex can be safely used with other drugs like corticosteroids, pain relievers, anti-nausea medications, and antispasmodics. Gintex does not interfere with chemotherapy drugs like cisplatin or cyclophosphamide. Gintex also doesn’t cause significant interactions with other medications like metoclopramide.
Contraindications
Gintex is not safe for people who are allergic to the drug or any of its ingredients.
Side Effects
Common side effects include headaches and constipation.

Gintex is classified as Pregnancy category ‘B’. Gintex is not known if Gintex passes into breast milk.
