Indications
HCG 10000 is used in females to help with ovulation when infertility is caused by problems like not ovulating or poor follicle development. HCG 10000 is also used to prepare follicles for puncture in treatments like ART, and to support the luteal phase. HCG 10000 can also help prevent threatened and habitual abortion.
In males, HCG 10000 is used to treat hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, delayed puberty, cryptorchidism (not caused by an obstruction), and oligospermia (low sperm count).
Pharmacology
HCG 10000 is a highly purified substance that has LH (Luteinizing Hormone) activity, which is important for the growth and development of both male and female gametes (eggs and sperm) and the production of gonadal steroids.
In females, HCG 10000 substitutes the natural LH surge during ovulation to trigger the final phase of follicle development and ovulation. In males, HCG 10000 helps stimulate Leydig cells to produce testosterone.
After a single injection, its levels reach their highest within about six hours, and HCG 10000 is mostly broken down in the kidneys. HCG 10000 is eliminated from the body over about two days. HCG 10000 does not accumulate in the body with regular use.
Dosage & Administration
In females: For ovulation induction, one injection of 5000-10000 IU is usually given along with an FSH-containing treatment. For luteal phase support, two repeat injections of 2500 to 5000 IU may be given within nine days after ovulation or embryo transfer.
For threatened or habitual abortion, 5000 IU is given twice a week by deep intramuscular injection until the 7th week of pregnancy.
In males: For hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, 2500 to 5000 IU is given twice a week. If infertility is a concern, additional doses with FSH may be added. Treatment should continue for at least three months to see improvement in sperm production. Testosterone replacement therapy should be stopped during this time.
Interaction
No significant interactions are known.
Contraindications
HCG 10000 should not be used in patients with known or suspected androgen-dependent tumors, like prostate or breast cancer in males.
Side Effects
Allergic reactions are rare but may include pain or rash at the injection site or fever. In females, unwanted ovarian hyperstimulation may occur, which causes symptoms like abdominal pain, nausea, or enlarged ovaries. In males, excessive androgen production can cause water and sodium retention, which can lead to conditions like high blood pressure or heart failure in people with a history of these issues.
Pregnancy & Lactation
HCG 10000 is not safe to use during pregnancy (Pregnancy Category X). HCG 10000 can cause harm to the fetus and is not recommended for women who are pregnant or may become pregnant.
HCG 10000 should also not be used while breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings
HCG 10000 increases the risk of multiple births in pregnancies following ovulation induction. HCG 10000 should not be used if there is a risk of ovarian hyperstimulation, which can occur in certain treatments like IVF. Women with polycystic ovarian disease should be monitored carefully. Men with conditions like heart failure, kidney problems, high blood pressure, epilepsy, or migraine should also be carefully watched for worsening symptoms.
Overdose Effects
There are no known symptoms of an overdose, as the acute toxicity is very low.
Therapeutic Class
HCG 10000 is classified under female sex hormones.
