Indications
Ipramid HFA is used to treat breathing problems related to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Ipramid HFA can also be used with inhaled beta 2-agonists to treat airway blockages in conditions like asthma.
Pharmacology
Ipramid HFA works by blocking the action of acetylcholine, a chemical that causes the muscles in the airways to tighten. By preventing this, Ipramid HFA helps to keep the airways open and improve breathing.
Dosage & Administration
Adults (including the elderly) and children over 12 years: 250-500 micrograms (1 ml or 2 ml) 3 to 4 times daily. For acute symptoms, 500 micrograms (2 ml) may be used. Maximum recommended dose for adults is 2 mg daily.
Children 6-12 years: 250 micrograms (1 ml) up to a daily dose of 1 mg (4 ml).
Children 0-5 years (for acute asthma): 125-250 micrograms (0.5 ml-1 ml) up to 1 mg (4 ml) per day. The doctor will guide the dosing schedule.
Ipramid HFA can be combined with a beta 2-agonist in the same nebulizer. The solution should be used immediately after mixing and any leftover solution should be thrown away. Only use sterile saline for dilution if needed.
Inhaler: Adults typically use 1-2 puffs, 3-4 times daily. In severe cases, up to 4 puffs can be used at once. Children 6-12 years use 1-2 puffs, 2-3 times a day. Children under 6 years should use 1 puff, 3 times a day. Adults should supervise children when using the inhaler.

Ipramid HFA can be used with other medications for COPD like bronchodilators, steroids, and methylxanthines. However, there are no studies on the full interaction between these drugs and Ipratropium.
