Indications

Ketocon is used for treating infections caused by yeast, such as dandruff, seborrhoeic dermatitis, and pityriasis versicolor. Ketocon is also used for skin infections like athlete’s foot and dhobie itch, and for certain types of skin conditions caused by fungi. Additionally, Ketocon helps treat infections in the mouth, vagina, and the skin when other treatments aren’t enough, including fungal infections inside the body.

Pharmacology

Ketocon works by stopping the production of ergosterol, an important part of fungal cell membranes. This leads to damage in the fungal cells, making them more permeable and weakening them. The changes in the cell structure prevent the fungus from growing properly.

Dosage & Administration

Shampoo: Apply to the affected areas on the skin or scalp, leave Ketocon on for 3 to 5 minutes, then rinse off.

Treatment: For pityriasis versicolor, use Ketocon once a day for 5 days. For seborrhoeic dermatitis and dandruff, use Ketocon twice a week for 2 to 4 weeks.

Prophylaxis: Use once a day for 3 days before summer for pityriasis versicolor, and once a week or every other week for seborrhoeic dermatitis and dandruff.

Cream: Apply twice a day for conditions like athlete’s foot. For more serious cases, continue treatment until a few days after symptoms disappear. For other infections, apply once or twice a day and continue for a few days after symptoms are gone.

Tablet: For vaginal infections, take 1 tablet (200 mg) twice a day for 5 days. For other infections, take 1 tablet (200 mg) once a day until symptoms are gone and tests show no infection.

Duration of Treatment: Treatment for different infections can last from a few weeks to several months, depending on the severity of the condition.

Interaction

Shampoo and cream: No known interactions.
Tablet: The absorption may be reduced by antacids and other medications like antimuscarinics, H2-blockers, and sucralfate. Ketocon may also interact with drugs like rifampicin, isoniazid, and phenytoin, reducing the effectiveness of the tablet. Ketocon can affect the blood levels of certain medications, including oral contraceptives, digoxin, and blood thinners.

Contraindications

Ketocon should not be used by people who are allergic to ketoconazole.
