Is Antibiotic: No
Indications
Laxopride 1 is used to treat chronic constipation in adults when other laxatives do not work well enough.
Pharmacology
Laxopride 1 works by stimulating the 5-HT4 receptors in the digestive system, helping to increase the movement of the intestines. This helps the muscles in the colon contract and move contents forward, promoting better bowel movements. Laxopride 1 does not affect the heart or other types of receptors, reducing the risk of heart-related problems found in other similar drugs.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: Take 2 mg once a day with or without food. Taking more than 2 mg a day is not likely to be more effective.
Older people: Start with 1 mg once a day and increase to 2 mg if needed.
Children: Laxopride 1 should not be used in children or adolescents under 18 years of age.
Interaction
Laxopride 1 has little potential to interact with other medications. Laxopride 1 does not affect the way the liver processes other drugs. However, some medicines like ketoconazole may slightly increase the level of prucalopride in the body, but this is not a major concern. There is no significant interaction with medications like warfarin, digoxin, alcohol, paroxetine, or birth control pills.
Contraindications
Laxopride 1 should not be used by people who are allergic to any of its ingredients or have severe kidney problems that require dialysis.
Side Effects
Common side effects include headache (17.8%), stomach pain, nausea, and diarrhea. These effects mostly happen at the start of treatment and usually go away within a few days. Other side effects have been reported but are usually mild to moderate in severity.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Laxopride 1 is not recommended during pregnancy. Women who can get pregnant should use effective birth control while taking Laxopride 1. Animal studies do not show any harmful effects on pregnancy or baby development, but there is not enough human data to recommend its use during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings
Laxopride 1 is mainly eliminated through the kidneys. People with severe kidney problems should take a lower dose. Laxopride 1 should be used cautiously in people with severe liver problems. In case of severe diarrhea, birth control pills may not work as well, so an additional form of contraception should be used. This medicine contains lactose and should not be used by people with certain rare genetic problems like galactose intolerance.
Overdose Effects
Overdose may cause symptoms like headache, nausea, and diarrhea. There is no specific treatment for an overdose, but the patient should receive supportive care, including fluids if needed to correct electrolyte imbalances caused by excessive diarrhea or vomiting.
Therapeutic Class
Laxopride 1 is an osmotic purgative used to relieve constipation.
Storage Conditions
Store at room temperature, below 30°C. Keep in the original bottle and do not remove the desiccant (drying agent).
