Indications
Lecet is used to treat symptoms of allergic conditions, such as year-round allergic rhinitis, seasonal allergic rhinitis, and chronic idiopathic urticaria.
Pharmacology
This medicine contains Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride. Levocetirizine is the active form of cetirizine. Lecet is a new, highly effective, and well-tolerated antihistamine that does not cause drowsiness. Lecet has strong anti-allergic properties and works by binding to H1 receptors with a higher affinity than cetirizine. Levocetirizine acts quickly and lasts long, allowing for once-a-day use.
Dosage & Administration
Adults and children 12 years and older: Take 5 mg once a day.
Children 6 to 11 years: Take 2.5 mg (½ tablet or 1 teaspoon oral solution) once a day.
Children 6 months to 5 years: Take 1.25 mg (½ teaspoon oral solution) once a day.
Pediatric use: The recommended dose for treating skin issues from chronic idiopathic urticaria in children aged 6 months to 17 years is based on adult doses.
Geriatric use: There were not enough older patients in studies to know if they respond differently.
Hepatic impairment: No dose adjustment is needed for patients with only liver problems.
Renal impairment: For mild renal impairment (creatinine clearance: 50-80 ml/min), take 2.5 mg once a day. For moderate renal impairment (creatinine clearance: 30-50 ml/min), take 2.5 mg once every other day. For severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance: 10-30 ml/min), take 2.5 mg twice a week. For patients with end-stage renal disease or on dialysis, levocetirizine should not be used.
Interaction
Levocetirizine is not known to interact with other medications.
Contraindications
Lecet is contraindicated in patients who are allergic to levocetirizine, cetirizine, or hydroxyzine. Lecet should not be used in patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance: <10 ml/min).
Side Effects
Levocetirizine is usually well tolerated, but some people may experience mild side effects, such as headache, dry mouth, fatigue, or a skin rash.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Lecet is classified as Pregnancy Category B. There are no well-controlled studies in pregnant women, so Lecet should only be used during pregnancy if clearly needed. Levocetirizine passes into breast milk, so Lecet is not recommended for nursing mothers.
Precautions & Warnings
Use caution in epileptic patients, those at risk of seizures, and those with kidney problems. Lecet should also be used carefully during pregnancy and lactation.
Overdose Effects
No serious issues have been reported in case of overdose. If overdosed, symptomatic and supportive treatment is recommended.
Therapeutic Class
Non-sedating antihistamines.
Storage Conditions
