Generic Name: Clobetasone butyrate 0.05% Topical
Company: General Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
MRP:৳ 40.27 (15gm tube)
Is Antibiotic: No
Indications
Miclo is used to treat eczema and different types of dermatitis, such as atopic eczema, photodermatitis, otitis externa, allergic dermatitis (including napkin rash), intertrigo, prurigo nodularis, seborrhoeic dermatitis, and insect bite reactions. Miclo may also be used to maintain treatment between courses of stronger topical steroids.
Pharmacology
Miclo is a topical steroid that works well in treating eczema. Miclo is more effective than 1% Hydrocortisone and other common, weaker steroids. Miclo has minimal impact on the adrenal system. Although, like other topical steroids, Miclo can cause skin thinning if used wrongly, Miclo causes less thinning than other steroids.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: Apply up to four times a day to the affected area until you see improvement. Then, reduce the frequency.
Interaction
No harmful interactions have been reported.
Contraindications
Miclo is not suitable for skin infections caused by viruses (like herpes simplex or chickenpox), fungi (like candidiasis or tinea), or bacteria (like impetigo). Miclo should not be used if you are allergic to any of its ingredients.
Extreme caution is needed when used on infants or children as Miclo may cause adrenal suppression. Miclo should not be used for more than seven days, and care should be taken with skin conditions like napkin rash where absorption may increase.
If the skin becomes infected, stop using the steroid and use appropriate antimicrobial treatment. If the infection spreads, stop the corticosteroid and use systemic antimicrobial drugs.
Prolonged use on the face or in conditions like psoriasis is not recommended. If used on the face or for psoriasis, supervision is important.
Care should also be taken when applying Miclo to the eyelids to avoid Miclo getting into the eyes, which can cause glaucoma.
Side Effects
If you notice any signs of an allergic reaction, stop using Miclo immediately. If large areas of the body are treated, some patients might absorb enough steroid to cause temporary adrenal suppression, despite the low amount of systemic activity associated with Miclo.
In rare cases, pigmentation changes or hair growth may occur with long-term use.
Symptoms may sometimes get worse before they get better.
Pregnancy & Lactation
There is not enough evidence about its safety during pregnancy. Topical steroids have been shown to cause abnormalities in developing animals, so there may be a small risk for the human fetus.
Precautions & Warnings
Miclo can be absorbed in large amounts if used on large areas, broken skin, or under occlusive dressings, causing possible side effects. Miclo should not be used for itching in certain conditions like heart failure, high blood pressure, diabetes, glaucoma, or eye infections. Miclo should also be avoided in patients with tuberculosis, renal failure, or active infections. Prolonged use on the face should be avoided.
Overdose Effects
Acute overdose is unlikely, but chronic misuse may lead to symptoms of excessive steroid use, which should be managed by discontinuing the use of the steroid.
Therapeutic Class
Miclo is a Clobetasol / Clobetasone & Combined Preparation.
Storage Conditions
Store below 30˚C. Do not freeze. Keep away from light.
