Indications
Noxarin 80 is used for treating deep vein thrombosis (DVT), with or without lung blood clots (pulmonary embolism). Noxarin 80 is also used for treating unstable angina and non-Q-wave heart attack along with aspirin. Noxarin 80 helps prevent blood clots during hemodialysis and is used to prevent venous blood clot formation, especially after surgeries or in bedridden patients due to serious illness.
Pharmacology
Noxarin 80 is a low molecular weight heparin that works mainly by blocking certain factors in the blood clotting process. At the correct doses, Noxarin 80 does not cause increased bleeding and does not change blood clotting times significantly. Noxarin 80 is processed in the liver.
Dosage & Administration
For DVT treatment: Injected under the skin, 100 anti-Xa IU/kg twice a day for 10 days, or 150 anti-Xa IU/kg once a day for 10 days. Switch to oral anticoagulants once appropriate.
For unstable angina and non-Q-wave heart attack: Injected under the skin, 100 anti-Xa IU/kg twice a day for 2 to 8 days, along with aspirin.
For hemodialysis: Inject 100 anti-Xa IU/kg at the start of the dialysis. In high-risk patients, reduce the dose to 50 or 75 anti-Xa IU/kg, depending on the type of access used.
For surgical patients: In general surgery, inject 2000 anti-Xa IU once daily for 7 to 10 days, starting 2 hours before surgery. For orthopedic surgery, inject 4000 anti-Xa IU once daily, starting 12 hours before surgery, with the possibility of extending treatment.
For medical patients: Inject 4000 anti-Xa IU once daily for 6 to 14 days.
Interaction
Avoid using medications that affect blood clotting, such as aspirin, NSAIDs, and other anticoagulants, unless absolutely necessary. If used together, careful monitoring is required.
Contraindications
Noxarin 80 is not safe for patients who are allergic to Noxarin 80, heparin, or other similar drugs. Noxarin 80 should not be used by patients with active major bleeding or a high risk of bleeding, such as those with a recent hemorrhagic stroke.
Side Effects
Side effects may include bleeding, low platelet count, elevated liver enzymes, pain, or bruising at injection sites. Serious side effects like nerve damage may occur if used with spinal anesthesia.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Noxarin 80 is categorized as safe during pregnancy (Category B) but should only be used if necessary. There is no evidence Noxarin 80 crosses the placenta, but always consult a doctor. Noxarin 80 is unknown if Noxarin 80 passes into breast milk, so a decision should be made whether to continue breastfeeding or stop the drug, considering the risks and benefits.
Precautions & Warnings
Noxarin 80 should be injected under the skin for most treatments and into the blood during hemodialysis. Noxarin 80 should not be injected into the muscle. Use Noxarin 80 with caution in patients who have bleeding risks, such as those with ulcers, recent strokes, or diabetes. Regular platelet checks are recommended during treatment.
Overdose Effects
Overdose can cause bleeding. If this happens, Noxarin 80 can be treated with protamine sulfate to neutralize the drug. The dose of protamine should match the amount of the drug given.

Noxarin 80 belongs to the class of parenteral anticoagulants, which are used to prevent blood clots.

Store in a cool, dry place, away from light and moisture. Do not store above 25°C or in the fridge or freezer. Keep out of reach of children.
