Indications
Opatin Max is used to treat symptoms of allergic eye conditions like itchy, watery, red, or swollen eyes and eyelids. This includes conditions such as allergic conjunctivitis, vernal keratoconjunctivitis, and giant papillary conjunctivitis.
Opatin Max is also used as a nasal spray to help relieve symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever) in adults and children aged 6 years or older.
Opatin Max is also available as a tablet to treat allergic rhinitis and allergic skin reactions. Opatin Max helps reduce symptoms like skin rashes, hives, itching, sneezing, and a runny or blocked nose.
Pharmacology
Opatin Max is an antihistamine that works by blocking the action of histamine in the body, helping to reduce allergy symptoms like sneezing, itching, and a runny nose.
Opatin Max works in several ways: Opatin Max helps stabilize cells in the body that release histamine, preventing allergic reactions. Opatin Max also blocks the histamine H1 receptors, which reduces the release of chemicals that cause inflammation.
Dosage & Administration
Eye Drops:
- 0.1%: One drop in each affected eye two times a day, 6-8 hours apart.
- 0.2%: One drop in the affected eye once a day.
- 0.7%: One drop in each affected eye once a day.
Nasal Spray:
- Adults and children over 12 years: Two sprays in each nostril twice a day.
- Children aged 6 to 11 years: One spray in each nostril twice a day.
Tablet:
- Adults: One tablet (5 mg) twice a day, in the morning and before bed. Adjust the dose as needed based on the condition and symptoms.
- Children 7 years and older: One tablet (5 mg) twice a day, in the morning and before bed.
If you miss a dose, take Opatin Max as soon as you remember. If Opatin Max’s almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose. Never take two doses at once. Do not stop taking the medicine without your doctor’s advice.
Interaction
There were no formal drug interaction studies for the nasal spray. Since Opatin Max is mainly eliminated through the kidneys, drug interactions with liver enzymes are unlikely. There are no expected interactions with P450 enzyme inhibitors or plasma protein binding.
Contraindications
Opatin Max is not recommended for use if you are allergic to any ingredient in the product. Make sure to inform your doctor about any current medications or health conditions to ensure the medicine is safe for you.
Side Effects
Some side effects may include headaches, tiredness, blurred vision, burning or stinging in the eyes, dry eyes, stuffy nose, allergic reactions, eye irritation, nausea, sore throat, itching, or a change in taste. If any of these side effects bother you, let your doctor know.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Opatin Max has not been shown to cause harm to babies in animal studies, but there are no well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Opatin Max should only be used during pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks. Opatin Max is not known if the medicine passes into breast milk, so caution is advised if you are breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings
If you wear contact lenses, do not use the eye drops if your eyes are red. Wait at least 10 minutes after using the eye drops before putting in soft contact lenses. The nasal spray should not be sprayed in the eyes. If you have not used the nasal spray for more than 7 days, prime Opatin Max by spraying Opatin Max twice before using Opatin Max.
