Indications

Oradin is used to relieve symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis, and skin allergies like chronic hives. Oradin helps with symptoms like sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, and burning eyes. Oradin quickly relieves nasal and eye symptoms after taking Oradin. Oradin is also used for idiopathic urticaria (hives). For children over 2 years, Oradin is used for seasonal allergic rhinitis and allergic skin conditions like hives or nettlerash.

Pharmacology

This tablet contains Loratadine, a non-sedative antihistamine that helps fight allergies. Oradin works by blocking histamine H1 receptors in the body, preventing allergic reactions. Loratadine is a long-acting medication that works well and doesn’t cause drowsiness, making Oradin effective with just one dose per day.

Dosage & Administration

Adults and children over 12 years: One tablet once daily, usually in the morning or whenever symptoms occur.

Children 2-12 years: For those weighing over 30 kg, one tablet once daily. For those below 30 kg, half a tablet once daily.

Children under 2 years: Oradin is not recommended for children below 2 years as safety and effectiveness are not established.

Interaction

There are no reports of dangerous interactions with other medicines. Unlike many antihistamines, Loratadine doesn’t cause problems when taken with alcohol. However, taking Oradin with medications like Cimetidine, Erythromycin, or Ketoconazole, which affect liver enzymes, can increase the levels of Loratadine in the body. No adverse effects have been reported in this case.

Contraindications

Oradin is contraindicated in patients who are allergic or sensitive to any of its components.

Side Effects

Oradin is generally well tolerated. Clinical studies show that side effects like drowsiness and dry mouth are rare and similar to those of a placebo. Loratadine does not affect driving or mental performance.

Pregnancy & Lactation

There is not enough information on Loratadine use during pregnancy, so Oradin is not recommended. Loratadine does pass into breast milk in small amounts, so Oradin should not be used by nursing mothers.

Precautions & Warnings

Oradin should be used with caution in patients with liver or kidney problems (eGFR <30 ml/min).

Overdose Effects

If overdosed, symptoms like drowsiness, fast heart rate, and headache may occur in adults. Children might experience extrapyramidal symptoms and palpitations. In case of overdose, general supportive treatment should be started right away. Activated charcoal can be used, and if vomiting is necessary, Oradin can be induced or gastric lavage can be performed.

Therapeutic Class

Non-sedating antihistamines
