Indications
Ornova 20 is used to treat gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcers, reflux esophagitis, and to prevent the return of these ulcers when taking low-dose aspirin or NSAIDs. Ornova 20 is also used as part of treatment to remove Helicobacter pylori bacteria in people with gastric or duodenal ulcers, gastric MALT lymphoma, idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, or after early-stage gastric cancer surgery.
Pharmacology
Ornova 20 is a potassium competitive acid blocker (P-CAB) that doesn’t need acid to work. Ornova 20 blocks the H+, K+-ATPase enzyme in a reversible way, reducing stomach acid. Ornova 20 stays in the stomach for a long time, helping prevent damage to the stomach lining and upper gastrointestinal tract.
Dosage & Administration
For Gastric & Duodenal Ulcers: The usual adult dose is 20 mg taken once a day for 8 weeks for gastric ulcers and 6 weeks for duodenal ulcers.
For Reflux Esophagitis: The usual adult dose is 20 mg taken once a day for up to 4 weeks. If this isn’t enough, the dose may be extended but shouldn’t exceed 8 weeks.
For Maintenance Therapy: If reflux esophagitis comes back, the dose is 10 mg once a day. If this doesn’t work, the dose may be increased to 20 mg once a day.
For Preventing Ulcer Return with Low-Dose Aspirin: The usual dose is 10 mg once a day.
For Preventing Ulcer Return with NSAIDs: The usual dose is 10 mg once a day.
For Helicobacter Pylori Eradication: Take 20 mg of Ornova 20, 750 mg of amoxicillin, and 200 mg of clarithromycin twice a day for 7 days. If needed, the clarithromycin dose may be increased, but Ornova 20 shouldn’t exceed 400 mg twice a day.
If the three-drug regimen doesn’t work, a different regimen with metronidazole can be used instead of clarithromycin.

Contraindications
Ornova 20 is not recommended for people allergic to Ornova 20 or any of its ingredients, or for those taking atazanavir, nelfinavir, or rilpivirine hydrochloride.
Side Effects
Common side effects include diarrhea, constipation, allergic reactions (including severe ones like anaphylactic shock), skin rashes, liver issues (such as jaundice), nausea, stomach bloating, and increased liver enzymes (AST, ALT, ALP, etc.).
Pregnancy & Lactation
If pregnant or planning to become pregnant, Ornova 20 should only be used if the benefits outweigh the risks. Ornova 20 is advised to avoid using Ornova 20 while breastfeeding unless necessary.
Precautions & Warnings
Patients should be closely monitored during treatment. For long-term use, regular check-ups, such as endoscopy, are advised. Ornova 20 should only be used for maintaining healing in patients who experience recurring reflux esophagitis.
If the condition improves, the dose may be reduced to 10 mg or stopped entirely.
Overdose Effects
No overdose experiences are reported. Ornova 20 is not removed from the body through hemodialysis. If overdose occurs, treatment is supportive and symptomatic.
