Panodin SR

Form: Tablet

Strength: 600mg

Generic Name: Etodolac

Company: Square Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

MRP:৳ 15.1   (Tablet)

Is Antibiotic: No

Indications

Panodin SR is used for both short-term and long-term treatment of conditions like osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Panodin SR also helps in managing acute pain and acute gout.

Pharmacology

Like other NSAIDs, Panodin SR works by blocking the enzyme COX, which reduces the production of chemicals involved in inflammation. Panodin SR binds to COX and prevents a substance called arachidonic acid from entering, which leads to reduced inflammation. Panodin SR is known to be more effective at targeting COX-2, a type of COX enzyme, which makes Panodin SR less likely to cause side effects compared to other NSAIDs. Panodin SR can also reduce fever by acting on the brain to increase heat loss.

Dosage & Administration

Adults and over 18 years: For the 300 mg capsule, take 600 mg daily in 1-2 doses. For the 600 mg extended-release tablet, take once daily.

Pediatric patients: Panodin SR has not been established if Panodin SR is safe or effective for children under 18 years.

Interaction

NSAIDs, like Etodolac, may reduce the effectiveness of blood pressure medications called ACE inhibitors. When Etodolac is taken with Aspirin, Panodin SR may affect how Panodin SR binds to proteins in the body, though Panodin SR doesn’t change how the body clears the drug. Panodin SR is generally not recommended to take Etodolac and Aspirin together because Panodin SR might increase side effects.

Contraindications

Panodin SR should not be used by people who are allergic to Etodolac or have had allergic reactions like asthma or skin rashes from taking Aspirin or other NSAIDs.

Side Effects

Common side effects include stomach pain, constipation, diarrhea, indigestion, gas, heartburn, nausea, and vomiting. Rare side effects may include kidney problems, low blood count (anemia), dizziness, swelling, headaches, rashes, and ringing in the ears.

Pregnancy & Lactation

There are no controlled studies in pregnant women. Panodin SR should only be used if the doctor thinks the benefits outweigh the risks. Panodin SR is unclear if Etodolac passes into breast milk, so a decision should be made whether to stop breastfeeding or stop the medication based on the needs of the mother.

Precautions & Warnings

Panodin SR should be used cautiously in patients with severe liver problems, asthma, high blood pressure, heart failure, or fluid retention. If any symptoms of liver issues or severe allergic reactions occur, the medication should be stopped.

Overdose Effects

Overdose symptoms may include drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain. These symptoms are usually reversible with supportive care.

Therapeutic Class

Panodin SR is classified as a drug used for osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and other inflammatory conditions, falling under the category of NSAIDs (Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs).

Storage Conditions

Store below 30°C. Keep away from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
