Indications
Parotin 20 is used for treating:
– Major Depressive Disorder
– Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
– Panic Disorder
– Social Anxiety Disorder
– Generalized Anxiety Disorder
– Posttraumatic Stress Disorder.
Pharmacology
Parotin 20 works by increasing serotonin activity in the brain. Parotin 20 blocks the reuptake of serotonin, a chemical that helps in mood regulation. Studies show Parotin 20 mainly affects serotonin, with little effect on other brain chemicals. Its metabolites (breakdown products) are mostly inactive.
Dosage & Administration
Major Depressive Disorder: Start with 20 mg per day, increase in 10 mg increments if needed, up to 50 mg/day.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder: Start with 20 mg per day, increase in 10 mg increments, up to 40 mg/day.
Panic Disorder: Start with 10 mg per day, increase in 10 mg increments, up to 60 mg/day.
Social Anxiety Disorder: Start with 20 mg per day.
Generalized Anxiety Disorder: Start with 20 mg per day.
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder: Start with 20 mg per day, increase as needed.
Dosage adjustments should be made to find the lowest effective dose.
Interaction
Parotin 20 is not affected by food or antacids. Be cautious when taking Parotin 20 with other drugs, especially tryptophan, alcohol, or drugs like MAO inhibitors. Interaction with drugs like phenytoin or warfarin can cause side effects.
Contraindications
Parotin 20 should not be used with MAO inhibitors or thioridazine. Also, avoid if allergic to Parotin 20.
Side Effects
Common side effects include tiredness, sweating, nausea, appetite loss, trouble sleeping, dizziness, and tremors. Other side effects may include sexual problems, dry mouth, constipation, or mood changes.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Parotin 20 should only be used during pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks. Parotin 20 can pass into breast milk, so caution is advised for nursing mothers.
