Indications
Relaxo 25 is used to manage muscle stiffness caused by conditions like spinal cord injury, stroke, cerebral palsy, or multiple sclerosis. Relaxo 25 helps patients regain movement when muscle tightness limits their ability to function. Relaxo 25 is not meant for muscle stiffness due to arthritis. In some cases, stopping the medicine for a few days may show if Relaxo 25 is truly helping the patient.
Pharmacology
Relaxo 25 works by directly acting on muscles to reduce stiffness. Relaxo 25 affects how muscles contract by controlling calcium release inside muscle cells. This helps relax tight muscles and improves movement.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: Start with 25 mg twice daily. The dose can be increased weekly up to a maximum of 400 mg per day if needed.
Children: Start with 0.5 mg/kg once daily, then gradually increase to three times a day. Some may need up to four doses per day.
For Surgery Patients: Take 4 to 8 mg/kg daily in divided doses 1-2 days before surgery. After a crisis, continue for 1-3 days to prevent recurrence.
Interaction
Relaxo 25 may cause drowsiness. Taking Relaxo 25 with sedatives or tranquilizers can increase sleepiness. Women over 35 taking estrogen may have a higher risk of liver problems.
Contraindications
Relaxo 25 should not be used by people with active liver disease like hepatitis or cirrhosis.
Side Effects
Common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, weakness, tiredness, and diarrhea. These usually go away as the body adjusts. If diarrhea becomes severe, stopping the medicine may be necessary.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Relaxo 25 should only be used during pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks. Relaxo 25 is not recommended for breastfeeding mothers.
Precautions & Warnings
Long-term use may cause liver damage. If no improvement is seen within 45 days, treatment should stop. Liver function tests should be done regularly. Patients should avoid driving or hazardous work due to possible drowsiness. Relaxo 25 may cause sensitivity to sunlight, so exposure should be limited.
