Indications
Remivir IV Infusion is used for the emergency treatment of suspected or confirmed COVID-19. Severe cases are defined as patients with oxygen levels below 94% in room air, or those needing extra oxygen, mechanical ventilation, or ECMO. Remivir IV Infusion is only approved for hospitalized adults and children who need an intravenous treatment.
Pharmacology
Remivir IV Infusion is a prodrug that works by entering cells and turning into an active form. This active form competes with natural compounds to stop viral RNA from copying. Remivir IV Infusion affects the virus’ ability to reproduce, helping to treat the infection. Remivir IV Infusion has minimal effect on human DNA and RNA and is not likely to harm cells.
Dosage & Administration
General Information: Patients must have kidney and liver function tests done before starting the treatment. The medicine should only be given through an IV and not by injection.
Adult Patients: If the patient requires a ventilator or ECMO, the first dose is 200 mg, followed by 100 mg daily for 9 days. If they do not improve, treatment can continue for up to 10 days. For patients not needing a ventilator, the first dose is 200 mg, followed by 100 mg daily for 4 days, extendable to 10 days if needed. The medicine is given through an IV with saline over 30 to 120 minutes.
Pediatric Patients: Children over 28 days and weighing less than 40 kg should receive a dose of 5 mg/kg on the first day, followed by 2.5 mg/kg daily for 9 days (longer if needed). Children over 40 kg should receive the adult dosage. The medicine should be administered through an IV over 30 to 120 minutes.

Contraindications
Remivir IV Infusion should not be used by anyone who is allergic to Remdesivir.
Side Effects
The main side effect observed in trials is an increase in liver enzymes.
Pregnancy & Lactation
There have been no well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Remivir IV Infusion should only be used during pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks. There is no information about whether Remivir IV Infusion passes into breast milk, so Remivir IV Infusion should only be used during breastfeeding if the potential benefits justify the risks.
