Generic Name: Flupenthixol + Melitracen
Company: Renata Limited
MRP:৳ 5.0 (Strip=10)
Per Piece: ৳ 0.50
Is Antibiotic: No
Indications
Renxit is used to treat various conditions such as anxiety, depression, apathy, psychogenic depression, depressive neuroses, masked depression, psychosomatic issues with anxiety and apathy, menopausal depression, and depression in alcoholics and drug addicts.
Pharmacology
Renxit contains two well-known compounds: flupentixol, a neuroleptic with anti-anxiety and antidepressant properties at low doses, and melitracen, a bipolar drug that works as a mood enhancer at low doses. Together, these compounds create a medication that has antidepressant, anti-anxiety, and mood-boosting effects. The highest concentration in the blood is reached about 4 hours after taking flupentixol and melitracen orally. The half-life of flupentixol is about 35 hours, and melitracen’s half-life is about 19 hours. The combination doesn’t seem to affect how each compound works individually.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: Usually, 2 tablets a day, taken in the morning and noon. If the symptoms are severe, the morning dose may be increased to 2 tablets.
Elderly patients: 1 tablet in the morning.
Maintenance dose: Typically, 1 tablet in the morning. If the patient has trouble sleeping or is very restless, additional treatment with a sedative is recommended in the early phase.
Interaction
Renxit may increase the effects of alcohol, barbiturates, and other CNS depressants. Using Renxit with MAO inhibitors can lead to dangerous high blood pressure. Renxit can reduce the effect of blood pressure medications like guanethidine and increase the effects of adrenaline and noradrenaline.
Contraindications
Renxit should not be used during the immediate recovery phase after a heart attack, in patients with bundle-branch conduction problems, untreated narrow-angle glaucoma, or acute intoxication from alcohol, barbiturates, or opiates. Renxit should not be given to patients who have taken an MAO inhibitor within two weeks. Renxit’s also not recommended for excitable or hyperactive patients because its stimulating effects can worsen these traits.
Side Effects
Side effects are rare when taken as directed. However, some people may experience temporary restlessness or trouble sleeping.
Pregnancy & Lactation
This tablet should preferably not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings
If the patient has previously used tranquilizers with sedative effects, these should be gradually stopped.
Overdose Effects
If too much of this medication is taken, the symptoms of melitracen poisoning, mainly anticholinergic effects, will be the most noticeable. Less frequently, symptoms caused by flupentixol may occur. Treatment should focus on symptoms. Gastric lavage and activated charcoal can help, and supportive care for breathing and heart function should be given. Epinephrine (adrenaline) should not be used. Seizures can be treated with diazepam, and extrapyramidal symptoms with biperiden.
Therapeutic Class
Renxit belongs to the class of combined anxiolytics and anti-depressant drugs.
Storage Conditions
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light. Keep out of reach of children.
