Indications

Setra 50 is used to treat several conditions including depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, social anxiety disorder, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder.

Pharmacology

Setra 50 is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that works by increasing serotonin levels in the brain. This helps improve mood and reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety. Setra 50 has a long half-life, allowing Setra 50 to be taken once a day.

Dosage & Administration

Adults: For depression, OCD, panic disorder, PTSD, and social anxiety disorder, the starting dose is 50 mg, with a therapeutic range of 50-200 mg.

Pediatric Patients (ages 6-12): For OCD, starting dose is 25 mg, with a therapeutic range of 50-200 mg. The recommended dose increase interval is one week.

Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD): Starting dose is 50 mg per day. Setra 50 can be taken continuously or intermittently, depending on the patient’s condition.

Interaction

Setra 50 may interact with drugs that are tightly bound to plasma proteins, such as warfarin or digitoxin, potentially causing adverse effects. Setra 50 can also interact with drugs like cimetidine, diazepam, hypoglycemic drugs, and atenolol.

Contraindications

Setra 50 is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to the drug or any of its ingredients. Setra 50 is also not recommended for patients with moderate to severe liver impairment.

Side Effects

Setra 50 may cause side effects like upset stomach, diarrhea, constipation, vomiting, dry mouth, loss of appetite, weight changes, drowsiness, dizziness, headache, and tingling or burning sensations in the hands or feet.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Although animal studies did not show any harm, its safety during pregnancy in humans is not established. Setra 50 is known to pass into breast milk, and its effects on a nursing infant are not fully understood. If necessary, breast-feeding should be stopped while taking the drug.

Precautions & Warnings

Use caution in patients with liver problems, kidney diseases, heart issues, or a history of seizures. Setra 50 may cause dizziness or drowsiness, so be careful when performing tasks requiring alertness. Setra 50 should not be taken if you’ve recently used a monoamine oxidase inhibitor. Regular monitoring is required due to the potential for suicidal thoughts, especially in the first few weeks of use.
