Indications

Silosin 8 is used to treat symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Silosin 8 is not used to treat high blood pressure. Silosin 8 is highly effective in treating BPH and works specifically on the alpha-1 adrenergic receptors. Silosin 8 can be a good option for those who don’t respond to Tamsulosin. Silosin 8 does not cause a drop in blood pressure when standing up and can be taken once a day.

Pharmacology

Silosin 8 works by blocking certain receptors (alpha-1 adrenoreceptors) in the prostate, bladder, and other related areas. This helps relax the muscles and improve urine flow, reducing the symptoms of BPH.

Dosage & Administration

Adults: The usual dose is 8 mg taken once a day with a meal. For those with moderate kidney problems, a 4 mg dose once a day is recommended.

Interaction

Taking Silosin 8 with certain medications, like strong P-glycoprotein inhibitors (e.g., cyclosporine), may increase its concentration in the body. Silosin 8 should not be taken with PDE5 inhibitors (e.g., sildenafil) as Silosin 8 may cause low blood pressure.

Contraindications

Silosin 8 should not be used by patients with severe kidney or liver problems, those taking strong Cytochrome P450 3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole), or people who are allergic to Silosin 8.

Side Effects

Common side effects include retrograde ejaculation, dizziness, diarrhea, low blood pressure when standing, headache, stuffy nose, and sore throat.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Silosin 8 is not intended for use in women, including those who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Studies in animals showed no harm to the fetus at high doses, but Silosin 8 should not be used during pregnancy unless necessary.

Precautions & Warnings

Silosin 8 may cause dizziness when standing up, especially when starting treatment. Silosin 8 should not be combined with other alpha-blockers. If you’re planning cataract surgery, let your doctor know you are taking Silosin 8 due to the risk of Intraoperative Floppy Iris Syndrome.

Overdose Effects

Overdose can cause low blood pressure. Treatment includes keeping the patient lying down, using fluids to raise blood pressure, and possibly using medication to support the heart. Dialysis is not helpful since Silosin 8 binds strongly to proteins in the blood.

Therapeutic Class

Silosin 8 belongs to the class of medications used to treat BPH, urinary retention, and incontinence.

Storage Conditions

Store below 30°C, in a dry place and protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
