Indications
Spirocard 100 is used to treat conditions such as heart failure, liver disease with fluid buildup, kidney problems, high aldosterone levels, high blood pressure, and low potassium levels caused by diuretics.
Pharmacology
Spirocard 100 works by blocking the action of aldosterone, a hormone that retains sodium and removes potassium in the kidneys. This leads to increased water and sodium being removed from the body, while potassium is kept. Spirocard 100 acts as both a diuretic and a medicine to lower blood pressure. Spirocard 100 can be used alone or with other diuretics that act in other parts of the kidney.
Dosage & Administration
Edema in adults: Start with 100 mg per day, in one or two doses. This may be adjusted between 25 and 200 mg per day. Other diuretics may be added for faster results.
Primary hyperaldosteronism: For surgery preparation, take 100 to 400 mg per day. If surgery is not an option, Spirocard 100 may be used long-term at the lowest effective dose.
Essential hypertension: For adults, start with 50 to 100 mg per day, in one or two doses.
Hypokalemia: Spirocard 100 is useful for treating low potassium caused by diuretics, with a dosage ranging from 25 mg to 100 mg per day.
Interaction
Spirocard 100 may cause high potassium levels when taken with ACE inhibitors. Combining Spirocard 100 with alcohol, barbiturates, or narcotics can lead to low blood pressure when standing up. Using Spirocard 100 with corticosteroids or ACTH can cause low potassium. Spirocard 100 should not be taken with lithium, as Spirocard 100 can increase the risk of lithium toxicity. Spirocard 100 may also increase the effects of digoxin.
Contraindications
Spirocard 100 is not recommended for patients with kidney problems, high potassium levels, or sensitivity to the drug.
Side Effects
Side effects may include breast enlargement in men, stomach issues like cramping and diarrhea, tiredness, headaches, skin rashes, confusion, problems with periods or no periods, and bleeding after menopause.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Spirocard 100 should not be used during pregnancy. Canrenone, a product of the medicine, is found in breast milk. If necessary, alternative feeding methods for the baby should be used.
Precautions & Warnings
Patients should be monitored for fluid and electrolyte imbalances, especially potassium. High potassium can cause heart problems and be life-threatening, particularly in those with kidney issues or excessive potassium intake.
