Indications

SRT Vaginal Cream is used to treat conditions caused by low estrogen levels, such as vaginal problems (pain during intercourse, dryness, and itching), recurrent infections in the vagina or lower urinary tract, and urinary issues like frequent urination and discomfort. SRT Vaginal Cream is also used before and after vaginal surgery for postmenopausal women, to reduce hot flashes and night sweats, and as a diagnostic tool for unclear cervical smear results. SRT Vaginal Cream can also be used to treat infertility caused by cervical issues.

Pharmacology

SRT Vaginal Cream helps normalize the vaginal lining, restoring normal bacteria and pH balance in the vagina. This makes the vaginal cells more resistant to infections. Estriol is a short-acting form of estrogen, especially useful in treating urogenital problems in women close to or after menopause. After taking SRT Vaginal Cream orally, SRT Vaginal Cream is quickly absorbed and reaches peak levels within 1 hour. Most of SRT Vaginal Cream binds to albumin in the blood and is mostly excreted in the urine. SRT Vaginal Cream is metabolized and cleared through the liver and intestines.

Dosage & Administration

Atrophy of the lower urogenital tract: 4-8 mg per day for the first few weeks, then gradually reduce the dose to 1-2 mg per day for maintenance.

Pre and postoperative therapy in postmenopausal women undergoing vaginal surgery: 4-8 mg per day for 2 weeks before surgery, then 1-2 mg per day for 2 weeks after surgery.

Climacteric complaints (hot flushes and night sweats): 4-8 mg per day for the first few weeks, then reduce the dose to the lowest effective dose for maintenance.

A diagnostic aid in case of a doubtful atrophic cervical smear: 2-4 mg per day for 7 days before the next smear.

Infertility due to cervical hostility: Generally 1-2 mg per day during days 6-15 of the menstrual cycle. The dose can be adjusted depending on the response.

Interaction

SRT Vaginal Cream may increase the effects of certain corticosteroids. If necessary, the corticosteroid dose should be reduced. SRT Vaginal Cream may also interact with activated charcoal, barbiturates, hydantoins, and rifampicin, potentially reducing its effectiveness.

Contraindications

SRT Vaginal Cream should not be used during pregnancy, in women with estrogen-dependent tumors, undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, untreated endometrial hyperplasia, or suspected breast cancer.

Side Effects

Possible side effects include breast pain or tension, nausea, spotting, fluid retention, and increased cervical secretions, which may indicate too high a dosage. Rare side effects include headache, high blood pressure, leg cramps, and vision issues. Most of these side effects go away after the first week of use.

Other rare effects may include breast enlargement, vaginal infections, changes in bleeding patterns, stomach issues, jaundice, skin changes, and mood swings.

Pregnancy & Lactation

SRT Vaginal Cream is not safe to use during pregnancy. For breastfeeding women, SRT Vaginal Cream should only be used if necessary, as SRT Vaginal Cream can pass into breast milk and may reduce milk production.

Precautions & Warnings

During long-term use, regular medical check-ups are advised. If vaginal infections occur, they should be treated separately. The daily dose should not exceed 8 mg for long periods to avoid stimulating the uterus. SRT Vaginal Cream should be used cautiously in women with a history of heart problems, kidney issues, high blood pressure, migraines, liver disorders, endometriosis, and certain other conditions.

Overdose Effects

Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, and possibly withdrawal bleeding in women. No specific antidote is available, but treatment is generally symptomatic.

Therapeutic Class

SRT Vaginal Cream belongs to the group of drugs used for infertility, menopause symptoms (hormone replacement therapy), and female sex hormones.

Storage Conditions

Store below 30°C, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
