Form: Tablet
Strength: 1000mg+50mg
Generic Name: Metformin Hydrochloride + Sitagliptin
Company: Globe Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
MRP:৳ 16.0 (Tablet)
Is Antibiotic: No
Indications
Sucosit M is used along with diet and exercise to help control blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes, when treatment with both sitagliptin and metformin is needed. This should not be used for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis, as Sucosit M will not work for these conditions. Sucosit M has also not been studied in people with a history of pancreatitis, so Sucosit M is unknown if those patients are at a higher risk for developing pancreatitis while using this.
Pharmacology
Sucosit M combines two medications that work together to help control blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes. Sitagliptin is a DPP-4 inhibitor, which helps increase levels of hormones that boost insulin release and lower blood sugar. Metformin works in a different way by decreasing sugar production in the liver, reducing how much sugar the body absorbs from food, and helping the body use sugar better.
Dosage & Administration
Adult & Elderly: The dose depends on the patient’s current treatment and how well they tolerate the medication. The usual starting dose is one tablet twice a day with meals. The dose can be increased gradually to reduce stomach issues caused by metformin. The maximum recommended dose is 100 mg of sitagliptin and 2000 mg of metformin per day.
Pediatric patients: Sucosit M is not known if this medicine is safe or effective for children.
Interaction
Use caution when taking this with certain other drugs that are cleared through the kidneys. Metformin can reduce the effect of some blood thinners, like phenprocoumon. Sucosit M may also lower the blood sugar effects of levothyroxine. If you are taking these medicines, your doctor may adjust the doses or monitor you closely.
Contraindications
Sucosit M is not safe for people with kidney problems or severe liver disease, as Sucosit M can worsen these conditions. Sucosit M should also not be used during diabetic ketoacidosis or if you have had a serious allergic reaction to either sitagliptin or metformin. If you need a contrast dye for medical imaging, this should be temporarily stopped.
Side Effects
Common side effects include diarrhea, upper respiratory infections, and headaches. When used with other diabetes medications like sulfonylureas or insulin, Sucosit M can cause low blood sugar. Other effects may include nausea, stomach discomfort, and a sensation of tiredness.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Sucosit M is classified as pregnancy category B, meaning Sucosit M is not known whether Sucosit M is safe during pregnancy. You should only use Sucosit M during pregnancy if your doctor thinks Sucosit M’s necessary. Sucosit M is also unclear whether Sucosit M passes into breast milk, so be cautious if you are breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings
There is a risk of lactic acidosis, a rare but serious condition, especially in people with kidney or liver problems, or if you drink too much alcohol. You should also be cautious if you have a history of pancreatitis or other pancreatic issues. Sucosit M is important to monitor kidney function regularly while using this medication.
Overdose Effects
Overdose symptoms may include stomach pain, nausea, and difficulty breathing. If an overdose happens, supportive care, including monitoring and possibly dialysis, may be necessary. In severe cases, pancreatitis can develop.
Therapeutic Class
Oral diabetes medications that combine two drugs to help control blood sugar.
Storage Conditions
Store below 25°C in a dry, cool place, away from light. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use past the expiry date, and use only with a prescription from a doctor.
