Indications
Sucovil 50 is used along with diet and exercise to help control blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes. Sucovil 50 can be used alone or in combination with other diabetes medications when diet, exercise, and a single medication are not enough to control blood sugar.
Pharmacology
Sucovil 50 works by inhibiting an enzyme called DPP-4, which helps increase the activity of hormones that regulate blood sugar levels. These hormones help increase insulin release and decrease glucose production when blood sugar levels are high. By increasing and prolonging the activity of these hormones, Sucovil 50 helps control blood sugar in a glucose-dependent way.
Dosage & Administration
For monotherapy: 50 mg or 100 mg once a day.
For dual therapy with Metformin or Thiazolidinedione: 50 mg twice a day (morning and evening).
For dual therapy with Sulphonylurea: 50 mg once a day in the morning.
Sucovil 50 can be taken with or without food. No dosage adjustment is needed for elderly patients or those with mild kidney issues.
For pediatric patients: Sucovil 50 is not recommended for children under 18 years of age.
Interaction
Sucovil 50 does not interact with pioglitazone, metformin, glibenclamide, digoxin, warfarin, amlodipine, ramipril, valsartan, or simvastatin. However, certain medicines like thiazides, corticosteroids, thyroid medications, and sympathomimetics can reduce its effectiveness in lowering blood sugar.
Contraindications
Sucovil 50 should not be used by people who are allergic to any of its ingredients or have severe kidney issues. Sucovil 50 is also not recommended for people with liver problems (high ALT or AST levels) or type 1 diabetes.
Side Effects
Most side effects are mild and temporary, not requiring discontinuation of the medication. In rare cases, liver problems may occur. Long-term studies did not show any new safety concerns.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Sucovil 50 should not be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings
Caution should be taken in patients aged 75 or older. Liver function tests should be performed before starting treatment and monitored periodically. If liver enzyme levels rise, further monitoring and possible discontinuation of treatment may be required. Sucovil 50 should be used cautiously in patients with heart failure and should not be used in severe cases.
